Sounds a lot to me like Alcoholism is affecting him. Or it could be some other drug addiction that was passed down genetically. This songs makes it sound like his father ran off when he was too young to know him and then left him with nothing but some disease (alcoholism). This is why he says: "Forgive me I inherited this From a stranger I'll never miss(his dad left him with genes that are less than beneficial) I'm sick(alcoholism)." so basically i guess he is scared that he is turning out like his father and really doesn't want to. He hopes that his father is proud of how he ruined his son's life. Idk that is just my take on it. |

yeah i agree with lori1991 probably a relationship where neither person is willing to admit problems and are living blindly in this relationship. "we could never have us, because i've never had you" probably means that he is saying that he never had her-he had her but they didn't know each other and he never had HER- he had this person who he didn't know. I think he is saying "without me knowing who you are, there cannot be a relationship" sorry that was so long p.s "we could never have HAD us, because i've never had you" not that the word "had" is significant but i looked in the lyrics book that came with the cd and thats what it says |
