The Sound of Animals Fighting – The Heretic Lyrics 17 years ago
I want to choreograph to this song. I don't often think of things in terms of love and relationships (the way many people around my age do) but I kind of see this as from the perspective of a woman, and her husband/lover has died. Now she feel depressed as though there is nothing to live for, and her body is the only thing keeping her from her love. The body that she gave to her dead husband has now turned against her, so she is "burning it" or killing it so she may join her love.

That is how I perceived it. I suppose it could work similarly with the loss of a son, but I like to think of it as previously described. It's sad and tragic, for sure, but beautiful all the same. I am in love with this song.

Linkin Park – What I've Done Lyrics 17 years ago
This song is so powerful not only because of the musical arrangement, but because of the message it sends. So often people hold grudges and don't forgive those that are trying to start again. This song is about a person beginning again and forgetting all the past mess ups and past grievances. He says, "So let mercy come and wash away what I've done."

I think it's important to give people forgiveness when they genuinely ask for it, because it takes strength to admit you're wrong and to put yourself at the mercy of another. Hooray Linkin Park for starting fresh!

Flobots – Handlebars Lyrics 17 years ago
When I first heard this song, I thought it was like a silly nonsense song, but later, after I saw the video for it I actually listened to the lyrics and realized how deep it really is.

I love how it develops from someone rejoicing in their carefree existence into something globally important and sinister. I think it shows how easily people can become conquered by the seductive feelings of power. He starts out feeling triumphant because he can ride his bike with no handlebars, but then his discoveries and triumphs increase in proportion and importance until he's taking over the world and abusing his power. He went from a guy who loved the simple things to a cold-hearted, power-hungry dictator. And notice how he only mentions having friends in the beginning half of the song.

I love this song for how much is expressed in such a simple way.

Frou Frou – Breathe In Lyrics 17 years ago
this song confuses me b/c it has a playful sound but a somewhat serious meaning

she's so in love, obsessive even (whipped, you could say) and he breaks up with her "finesse an innocent from her partying"

and the chorus ... she waits for him as many girls do, thinking he'll return, her hopes are high but she will be disappointed

"What part of no don't you understand?
I've told you before
To just get off my case"

that's him talking
and the rest of the song is like her denial that he's actually leaving her and her continuing hope that they will reunite

Frou Frou – The Dumbing Down of Love Lyrics 17 years ago
perfection
like a lot of imogen heap songs, i think it has several different themes running through it
love
music
friendship, passion, and envy
disappointment
if you can't see it, look closer
because it's all there

Frou Frou – Old Piano Lyrics 17 years ago
i feel like it's not about waking up, but about hiding in yourself
maybe it's because that's how i relate to it
"what's that you're saying there? oh well"
she casts off the words of others, the whispers of others (if it was clearly and audibly spoken she wouldn't have to ask what was said) to keep herself from harm
it's like she's living in an eggshell
the rain blocks her view from the outside world
she can't see where she is and she doesn't care
she's safe within herself because no judgment lies there

she doesn't care anymore
that is her safety net, and it is a good one, except it keeps her from truly enjoying anything
so she will always be stuck in the rain

Esthero – I Drive Alone Lyrics 17 years ago
to me it's about being lost
and not lost in the literal sense, like, lost in your life, stuck even
she's talking about how she "can't move on but [she] can't go home"
she's on her own, and she's admitting to vulernability "i'm not so strong" but she's pressing on anyway
she's looking to herself for strength, comfort, and peace because she's been left behind
i guess it could be a break up song
but i like to think it's about more than just a lost boyfriend/girlfriend
i like to think it's about losing a friend, or family member
i feel like maybe someone she loved died and is never coming back, so she has to find strength within

i love this song
