Ok think about it this way........ The title is about Pete Rose and how he cheated, but then Pete Rose being cheated out of a spot in the hall of fame. "Well, I will never end up like him. The speaker is obviously sleeping with this married woman and saying he will never be cheated on but just like Pete Rose, he loses something and that is.... he will never have her. As for.... "Head like a steel trap, wish I didn't, I didn't, I didn't, I didn't, I didn't, I didn't, I didn't," - this is like Pete Rose wishing he never did it...... or maybe for the speaker as well because he goes on to say.... "I don't just want to be a footnote in someone else's happiness." "mr. sandman showing his beam when he walks into the room the walls lean in to listen serve out bright waves click back and forth like old headlights sniffing all of you again" - I agree with what people said before.... this is about insomnia and channel surfing. OK...... this is the REAL meaning behind this song...... I can 100% prove and back everything up. Before Leah Miller (Muchmusic), Dallas Green use to go out with a hairstylist in St. Catherines (I will not name any names as I am friends with her) The song "Save your scissors" goes both ways. #1. Scissor because she is a hairstylist and #2. He doesn't want to deal with with the situation or another bad breakup hence "someone else's skin" "maybe next time will be the right time and maybe next time will be your time" and "So why does it always seem That every time I turn around Sombody falls in love with me This has never been my soul intention And I have never claimed to have pates on such inventions" These 2 part of the song suggest that Dallas cheated on the girl and he felt really bad about it. The part that says "There's no way that I want you to be left behind" means that he cares about this girl and is sorry for what he's done. "Save your scissor" and move on with your life.
