| Actually, I'm pretty sure that this song is about Hurricane Katrina. Chris went to New Orleans, which, obviously, is mentioned in the song (and which, also obviously, is where the hurricane hit). He played a show there with a bunch of other artists as a relief show to raise money for putting the city back together, etc. I think it's fairly obvious, knowing that Dashboard was involved in the relief show, and that he mentions New Orleans in the song. Also, when he says "It will take more than a heavy rain to silence us," he's basically saying that all the rain/water/torrents/etc. of the hurricane can destroy the city, but it can't break the human spirit and the instict to survive. "There's fight in us" refers to that instinct, as well. "We're stronger where the strain had broken us" means that now that we have survived such a tragedy, or "weathered such a storm," we're stronger because of it; it's the same basic idea as the old cliche "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger." All this, along with all the other water metaphors throughout the song make me think that this is definitely about Hurricane Katrina, and Chris' (Dashboard's) little part they did to help in the relief. | |
