I think it's about love in genral. About how people fall in love and then you can fall out of love. Like gravity pushing and pulling on your heart. thats why he "cant stop smiling" and then "cant stop crying". The song is a little joyful but mostly sad because in the end gravity "pulls" and "turns on everyone." Its such a true song if you've ever really been in love with someone. It gives you that exact feeling in the song. |

First off, this song is amazing. I love Coldplay and I knew the new album would rock, but this song still blew me away when I heard it. I agree with some people.I think this song is talking about revolution. The first few verses are like why somebody would want to revolt. How you used to own everything and now it was taken away by "THE MAN" (lol). Or how you were the king and everyone loved you and then times changed (like they unfortunately do) and you fell from your glory like a European king. The chorus is different though.(and really beautiful) It could be the ceremony or your journey to the gallows as king(like french revolution). Or the song or your liberation, Much like a revolution. "Saint Peter won't call my name could be the corrupt king or the people who killed him(Coldplay has a tendency to make something about two sides of a story). I see how the song could show the side where the king is telling his story of how he was overthrown and how he regrets not serving the people right. The song could easily be about Christianity too. It did start out as a revolution. But I see it more about just revolution in general and all the sides of it. |
