These lyrics are some of the most powerful I have ever read. Here's my analysis: A girl cheated on him. The signs were there (I should have known) but he wanted to think of her as so good that he couldn't let himself believe that it was actually happening (but I never thought you'd do this to me). Whenever he pictures it in his head it makes him sick and when he suggests that she should have "slit his throat instead" what he means is that she should have broken up with him rather than cheating if she wanted to fuck that guy so badly. The blood would dry (he'd get over it) but the lies she hides (cheating) are rotting her insides. The part of the song that gets me the most is where he says, "They'll never know, cause I'll never tell. Your secrets safe with me I'll never let it out" It's almost as if he wants to show this girl that he's SO much better than her that not only was he the victim but he's gonna take the highroad and not ruin her reputation by spreading it. I could write an essay but I think that covers most of it. Amazing song |

This is my favourite song from one of my favourite bands. I love the way the vocals sound. The lyrics from 'she whispers something in my ear..." are really powerful accompanied by the way he sings that part. You can really feel the emotion. Great stuff |

I think it's pretty clear that this song is about the lead singer having broken up with his now ex-girlfriend. He clearly still cares very much for her which is why he is willing to do things to 'make her less sad'. The part where it goes: So call it quits or get a grip. You say you wanted a solution, you just wanted to be missed, sounds to me like the girl was telling him that she was going to kill herself if he didn't take her back. (Hence, ppl often refer to killing themselves as a solution to their problems but often they just want to be missed) Otherwise, the last verse is amazing and the song itself is one of Brand New's best and one of my favourite songs overall. (This was my first post, feedback is welcomed...) |
