The whole demon/semen rhyme has to be one of the worst ever, and Warrel delivers it with his characteristic dead-seriousness, as though it isn't a terrible rhyme, makes it even worse. |

| Nevermore – The Heart Collector Lyrics

To hear Dane's live intro from the Year Of The Voyager DVD makes the song seem overly simplistic. Basically, he asks all the guys in the audience if they've ever been dumped by a chick that they "reeeeeally liked fucking ... I mean REALLY liked fucking ... you liked it so much, it fucked your head up ... you liked it so much that you neeeever wanted her to go away ... you liked it sooooo fucking much, you let the Heart Collector steal your soul!"
But, with that in mind, it makes me think of the 'actor without tears" being a person without the ability to feel emotions, who preys on others to gain some semblance of feeling, and leaving behind all sorts of emotional wreckage.
Pretty heavy stuff for just being dumped by a chick. |

Yep, this song, and really the entire Politics Of Ecstasy album, is about acid, Dane being one of the true believers in "better living through chemistry." |

| Nevermore – Tomorrow Turned Into Yesterday Lyrics

I seem to recall reading an interview around the time of teh album's release, Warrel Dane saying people thought it was about Kurt Cobain, but it was more inspired by the death of Layne Staley. Personally, it reminds me of a poem we read in high school, can't think of the poet's name, but it was about a man named George Gray who never took a risk or had an adventure in his life and died regretting it. |

I used to think this one was about the guy complaining, more or less, that his girl didn't give him enough sex. Now it seems more like she's the one complaining that nothing he does is right, and generally being demanding. Hell, maybe it's both. |

Sure, it was written specifically about Jayne Mansfield, but like any good set of lyrics, it doesn't have to be taken that way. My favorite lines are "Childlike summer days in the sun / Slowly wishes turn to sadness." That's when you find out whatever it is you think is so great, a relationship or a dream or whatever, either isn't all you thought, or isn't going to last, or happen at al. |

Zakk should put down the beer adn the guitar for ten minutes and learn to read. Okay, so it's dedciated to Layne Staley, (Alice In Chains being an obviously huge influence on BLS). But "biddin' my time until I wave goodbye?" I thought it was justa typo, so I dug out the CD (not my favorite BLS album), and he actually sings "biddin'." You don't bid your time, you bide it, slob! |

| Tesla – Shine Away Lyrics

This one reads like a letter (real, unsent, or imagined) to an ex, from a "true love" kind of relationship that had to end. Maybe she called him one day out of the blue, or he just saw her somewhere. He's moved on, got a new woman now, and things are fine, but he's never quite gotten over the subject of the song. He knows if they have much, or any, contact, he could go back to her, and part of him wants to, but it would be a mistake and would ruin whatever peace he's been able to find, so it's best if she just leaves him alone. "'Cuz I'm afraid of what could happen if you shine my way ..." |

I agree with Magicblue to an extent. I think the girl in the song has a lot of "issues" that she dumps on him ("With all your love you gave to me, it was a mess ...") "What's slowly dyin' in me," is his love for her adn the hope he tries to keep alive that they can make the thing work. He knows it's not going to get better, and isn't able to convince himself otherwise anymore. The slow, mournful part in the middle is him finally losing all hope, and realizing he's done all he can. Then, when it picks back up, he's getting mad at her for treating him as she has, and at himself for letting her, and finally telling her off, adn not to bring her BS around anymore and just leave him alone. |
