I think the sexual lyrics on there can work two ways, as the aforementioned and also as something else...a relationship getting too close for comfort...she might want things 'deeper, faster, further and warmer'...references to time passing and feeling 'closer' as in closer in distance. He leaves her, perhaps 'you're on your own' OR now the 'you' is 'him' and he's now, typically, on his own after being so fickle. So he lapses into depression (darker, louder..etc) and then hints at building up the courage to commit (stronger). That massive bridge at the end pushes 'him' down the tunnel to the light at the end and he chooses to be with her. (I'll take you out tonight...anywhere). I think it's one of the most beautiful songs ever written. |
