Panic has awesome lyrics rich with meaning. It's apart of what makes them such a great band. This is a cool song, one of my favs. It could be said to have a rather cocky meaning initially. "It's the greatest thing that's yet to have happened, Imagine knowing me" However, another way to look at it is that it’s about being individual and stuff like that. Let's look at the title. 'Pas de Cheval' or Step of the Horse. With animals, to be a sheep means to be a follower. So, taking that into consideration I think the title means to not be a follower, but your own self. Step of the horse, not of the sheep. Which also makes the title less arbitrary. … Or something along those lines anyway, only less lame sounding. Following that, with the lyrics themselves, it goes onto say: 'So often do I meet, People in between, that just can't get a hold of it, so we'll just sing it for them.' As if to say that it doesn't matter what people think, they'll realise eventually it doesn't matter but until then we'll 'sing it for them.' It could also mean don’t judge people for before that was ‘Oh, little did she know Couldn't let me go Already a part of her’ This could refer to how others can be critical about realationships and other people in general and that they already have things in common. It could be any kind of realationship. Then it goes on to say it doesn’t matter. … "It's the greatest thing that's yet to have happened, Imagine knowing me" The chorus is interesting, and ties in well with the bridges. I believe this means that one of the great things in life is to actually know people, and not just see what is stereotypical. Not in a cocky sense, but more of a, you don't know people, but what a great thing it would be too. Tying it to the bridge, until you realise that the important thing is to know others it's an almost shallow way to live, and those who know it will be able to live it for them. 'And you'll never know until you're there' how good the other way is. And it also fits the first verses don’t judge people, things aren’t what they seem. 'Slow, leave walking to the world Give your feet a chance They'll do all the thinking' This could mean that instead of taking things as you think they are, step back and just let things run their course, it will turn out differently if you do and you'll see a different perspective. The wine part is the same as the ‘sing for them’ part, just a different metaphor. Ok that's my interpretation; I swear it wasn't as lame in my head! But I think this song has more depth then just a dance song and is not as shallow as it presents itself initially. |
