this song fucking creeps me out every time i hear it. it's great though. :)
it's title represents the meaning of the song. the downward spiral is a concept album, and this song is representing the point where he is changing, and becoming like a machine, unhuman. his depression basically controls him, both from drug addiction, isolation from society, and overall clinical depression, which is why he has no feelings. the noise in his head is the depression, and the machine of him. this song is about the point in which he is becoming something else, officially leaving his old self behind. |

the downward spiral is a concept album, and this is the last song on here. the previous song "the downward spiral" is, imo, about the character committing suicide. i think this song is meant to be his suicide note. brilliant, haunting song. much like a suicide note. |

this is a great song. creepy as hell, lol.
i think it's about an abusive relationship with his wife. the guy clearly overpowers her, but she tries to fight back sometimes when he abuses her, which is why he has "the bruise of the year". the final sentence "it's too bad you're married to me" represents the fact that he basically owns her, since she is too scared to divorce or leave the guy, which is how a lot of abusive relationships work. so, they continue to be together, despite the guy physically and emotionally abusing her. |

this is a great song. i think chino was incredibly mad at the world when he wrote this. if you wanna get deep into the song, i think it's about a couple, most likely married, where the woman does nothing but complain about all the things her husband does wrong, while ignoring everything he does right or good. |

I agree with a lot of what other people have said. I think it's a follow up to the song Meet Your Master. In meet your master, i think a group of rebels or the aliens have captured a politician from America, and begin showing him the truth. at first he resists, or shrugs it off, staying in his "it's all good" mindset. this is when the static is. but, eventually he realizes all the atrocities and wrongs that humanity has committed, and the state they have put the world in, and that the end is near. this is when the sound stops, and piano completely takes over.
this is a great instrumental. it's not a warm place, but it's still awesome. |

This is interesting ideas people have come up with. Personally, I just think it's about rape, taken from the rapist's point of view. It does have something to do with temptation, and i think it represents the rapist is tempted to rape this girl. now that i think about it, i think she is some sort of stripper or prostitute, and the guy is tempted to the point of raping her. |

everyone here has some good ideas. my personal opinion is that it's about how girls think beauty is all about makeup, clothes, cosmetics, and what is on the outside. and when they are hot, they depend so much on their "beauty" to get them the good things in life, and beauty matters so much to them that without it they are practically nothing. but by doing this, they could attract the wrong people, and could get attacked, raped, or even killed becuz of their beauty. and the song is asking, is losing your soul to cosmetics and good looks or being attacked and/or raped really worth looking beautiful? |
