Great song. I think it's definitely more about him saying to a friend "If you ever feel down and need help, I'll always be here" than a regular love song. Up there with Walking on Sunshine on my all-time list of best feel-good songs. Also, if you can listen to this without at least singing along to the chorus, you don't have a soul. |

If you think figuratively, a firefly is seen as something that brings light to a dark place. It seems to me like he's talking about someone who used to seem different to him, a light in a dark place, hence "firefly." But I think by the end of the song, he realizes that the person is nothing special, and has "lost their light," since in reality, they are just like them. Also, just a thought, it could also be about someone he believed in and the person let him down. But I digress. |
