You come to NYC wanting one thing and end up wanting and taking so much more and always finding yourself wanting more. soon you're lost in it and you loose yourself trying to fulfill your wants/desires, chasing after all the many things, rather than taking life as it comes to you, as it flows. | |

Someone approaches and asks, "can you hear them?" "the helicopters?" but, shhhh, there's no need for words. It's obvious we're into one another, we just look into each other's eyes while I daydream of making love to you, I can see the sun rising over us in the morning, rising over the city, reminding me that we'll have to deal with it the next day, the sin, the mess we'd be in. maybe the affair never happens: "impossible dream" perhaps she realizes the mess begins the moment they meet and she has to leave and never see this person again. This kind of encounter is common in New York City. She captures it well in this song and Thom's voice helps make it sound dreamy - because perhaps it's about a lusty daydream with someone you know it won't work out with or someone you shouldn't be with (ie. an affair). |
