Arcade Fire – Neon Bible Lyrics 17 years ago
I won't get into any greater meanings as I think that's been covered. However, I think the line 'Don't lick your fingers when you tuen the page,' is a reference to the Umberto Eco novel, "The Name Of The Rose," or more so the movie adaptation. It's a medieval murder mystery. Monks die because one monk put poison on the pages of 'impure' or non-religious texts in the monastery library. The poison is activated and ingested by the reader licking his fingers to thumb through the pages of these subversive texts. That idea has its own connotations.
