Contrary to some above posts, I think that the following line, "But your mother kept it all inside Threw it all away" is meant that the mother's path is being followed by the song's narrator - who attempts to not confront reality, but ignores the truth ("threw it all [truth] away") and in fact lives her life centred around the pain of her life's relationship. The rest of the song seems to develop on the narrator's propensity to do the same. |

thank you Idioteque, for calling jillie on that shockingly embarrassing post. Also of note, the previous post, by skunk, actually says that Thompson is in Manitoba. Just further highlight of this brilliant display of incompetence. |

This song is about the Sept 11 attacks (see first stanza). Gord mixes up the protagonist of the song, looking at the event from different viewpoints, one being that of the terrorists themselves. The second verse (It's a routine flight...etc) is told from the view of the hijackers of the airplanes (there's more worms... Afterlife: referring to the Muslim belief that martyrdom results in marriage to forty virgins). "on the Money' and 'bullseye' refer to statements heard on radio made by the pilot hijackers near the time of impact with the towers. When I realized what Gord wrote this about it pretty much blew me away. |
