This has got to be my favorite off Permalight. The guitar riff and drum perfectly capture a feeling of sleeplessness. Deliciously depressing. |

Agreed. I noticed the "yield to the signs" a little after I initially posted, and I have trouble making out the final verse, but if anyone knows it, please post it up, and I'll make the changes. |

| Graham Coxon – In This House Lyrics

This song is like the official opener to the album to me. "Look into the Light" feels more like a "welcome to your life" sort of intro. This whole album is brilliant. |

What a great song to make you feel wonderfully empty. Almost reminds me of Blur's "This is a Low". Just the feeling, though. Thank you Graham Coxon. |

Sounds like it might have something to do with the stock market. "When I spike, then I value..."
One of my favorite songs. It reminds me of something, and I love the explosions of guitar. |

I recently found the means to hear this song, and I really recomend it to any IP fan. The vocals are incredibly powerful, and I love the downward slope after each verse. It makes me think of a wounded peson in the middle of a snowy field. Just clutching their bleeding arm...yep. It's a really good song. |

| Idiot Pilot – Moerae (The Locust) Lyrics

Hey, does anyone think this song might have something to do with John the baptist? I mean, it comes right after sparkplug (which sounds like it's about the passion of the Christ) and JTB was sort of an outcast who ate locusts right? Or am I just grasping for straws here? I just thought it might fit in with the themes discussed here and the aftermath of sparkplug, but maybe not. |

This song's effect changes for me depending on location. I feel uneasy if I'm on a walk, but unusually relaxed if I'm laying flat. One of my favorites. |

Holy crap. I finally heard this song for the first time, and it blasted my mind away. I can't believe this wasn't on a studio album. This and mercury have become favorites. Really impressive. |

This might be my favorite Eels song. It's so relaxed, but unsettling at the same time. I was half asleep listening to this song once, and I almost thought I saw a ghost. Weird? |

| Blur – Miss America Lyrics

Could Albarn just be saying he likes English girls better? It sounds like a man who is living in close vicinity with an American girl, and her tendencies (dress, manner, language) don't seem as pure or feminine as those of the girls he knows. The song sounds like he's reassuring a girl back home that she need not worry because he has no interest in the girl he has to be near. That's just what it sounds like to me, though. |

Agreed. The music adds a sense of urgency or a dire situation. Like something doing its best to grab your attention, and it does occupy your thoughts, but you do not verbally acknowledge it. |

Best song on the new album. The transition in the beginning really provides imagery of night and fast movement (like a field). |

| Idiot Pilot – A Day in the Life of a Poolshark Lyrics

Sounds like the conclusion to a mixed life. He's done doing what he was good at and what made him special because it's also what gave him self hate. You can hear in his tone that he has a sort of disdain over himself. Almost slightly amused. |

| Idiot Pilot – Nightlife Lyrics

I really like Ayos's interpretation.
Another idea, could it be about someone who disappeared the night of a big social event because she got involved in something shady. The beginning almost suggests that she heard her about the other members involved getting caught, and so she has to go into hiding. Spiders could be related to the miserable life she has to lead while in hiding, and the searchers are urging her out. |

This song is almost a sad follow-up to "If There's Love." It's like things are falling apart, and despite the futility, Greenwater is still making a plea for someone to listen. Beautiful song. |

This song is really powerful, especially at the end. It almost reminds you of high school, where appearance is everything, and a lack of it can derail you and make you feel unstable. One of Sumner's best songs in my opinion. |

| Fiction Plane – I Wish I would Die Lyrics

This is an interesting song. It seems like the narrator discovers that everyone else is in pain, but unlike a lot of other themes, where the character is uplifted by this discovery, he falls into a rut because he thought it made him unique. The son of Sting scores yet again. |

It almost sounds like the city waking up. You get a kinda "nightime" feel. Like store and neon lights are going on, and people are waking up to be consumers. The background almost sounds like the thought noise in a mall. I dunno. |

Is he a soldier falling out of love with the war? It sounds like he realizes that people support war or struggle, rather than peace, so the fight will never end 'cos the fight is the goal. It also sounds like he realizes his comrades joined for a love of inflicting pain. That's just me, though... |

| Idiot Pilot – Last Chance Lyrics

Sounds like the second coming. Some of the lines remind me of terms like "the first shall be last." And the lyric about floating up could relate to heaven. The song also seems to talk about how our culture's cheapened, and how we all want to go up, though we don't really deserve it. I dunno. |

| Idiot Pilot – Cruel World Enterprise Lyrics

Hey, could this have something to do with not wanting to stop in the middle of intercourse? Like the central character thinks he hears the sounds of trespassers or killers in his house, but he convinces himself he is imagining it. "Now that we have found you out" and "The wolves have finally shown their teeth" suggest that harm will befall him for letting his instinct doing the thinking. |

| Idiot Pilot – Militance Prom Lyrics

Almost sounds like they're trying to diffuse a bomb at a big social event (prom?) The outward sound of explosion, a finite period of time, fire in the hole. I dunno. The line "do you think they'd mind" could have something to do with being a nuisance at prom, but for the purpose of saving lives. Would they rather live or have this night? |

| Idiot Pilot – In Record Shape Lyrics

|
Sounds kind of like anorexia. The speaker says he keeps himself in record shape (in his opinion), yet the lyrics of spinning lights suggest dizziness and exhaustion. Another speaker reasurres the person that they will not have to do any heavy lifting or chopping. It's the frustration of trying to maintain what you think in your head is a perfect figure. |

| Idiot Pilot – Planted in the Dark Lyrics

It feels like the start of something infectious. The message is a catalyst, and everything grows out of it.
Lines that suggest itchy skin or skin trapped under stitches, hint at disease. The last bit sounds pretty violent, but it is not without its charm. If you see the wind as an invisible attacker, and a tree as a large stationary target, (It is incredibly difficult to defend yourself from all sickness) then it kinda makes sense, but that's just me. |

| Idiot Pilot – Arrhythmia Lyrics

After the word "execute" does anyone else hear "and if I were you, woulda jumped off?"
This song seems like an awakening. When "We found a way" comes into play, it's almost like the eyes snapping open. I dunno if it's intended, but it almost gets you feeling low in the heart, just before delivering hope. It's really beautiful. |
