My mum used to sing this to me as a child. I makes me all tearful when I hear it now...the song is about the innocence of childhood. |

This song is incredibly painful for me to listen to...my partner and I first went out 10 years ago, and I knew after 5 weeks that we were going to break up when I was making her dinner and this came on MTV...I haven't been able to hear it for years without thinking of that...
...on the plus side, we got back together last year and we're getting married next year. So now I can listen to it (though I prefer not to)... |

I LOVE this song. Yes, it's about an armed robbery but there is another level to it - the "hardest part", "coming fast" and "needing some hardened steel" - doesn't take much imagination to fugure out what that's about. Blondie were fond of putting dirty jokes in their songs from time to time. Cool song, and a proper rocker. |

| Blondie – Call Me Lyrics

It is based on the film "American Gigolo" and is written from his point of view, mostly...the client can call him anytime for his "service". The reference to sharing the wine - there is a scene in the film where he opens a bottle of wine for a rich, older client. He then falls in love with another client (emotions come) and she gives him an alibi for a murder he did not commit ("love's alibi").
The rest of it refers to his skill in languages..in the film the character speaks Swedish and French. |

| The Pretenders – Private Life Lyrics

The meaning is pretty clear...
It's about a woman who is either having an affair with a married man, or being hit on by one. She recognises the usual cliches he spouts, which by now "bore her to death", and she rejects him. The monotony of the background music cleverly mirrors the boredom and monotony felt by the woman as the man drones on about his marriage and sex life problems. Love this song, very understated, that's why it works so well. |

The last poster is right. It's not "I see her in the hospital", it's "I see ya in the hospital". The man keeps coming home late, cheating, being abusive to the woman. One day she snaps and attacks him, putting him in hospital. Only then does he realise that his behaviour has made her "the meanest woman in the world". |
