Wow, first comment. I think it's about a guy trying to impress a girl. He really likes her and has been nice for a while and is waiting to find out what she really thinks. "I'm caged in your eyes"... possibly he's just a friend to her. So he goes along with everything she says to try to impress her. Then the chorus. It's sarcastic, he's saying he's sorry about not being what she looks for even though he's never hurt her, never made her upset. Still though, he's in deep with leading her on about how he is, but he still is a nice guy. Now he's lied to make her happy and he feels bad about it. Maybe this is when they are together finally or after. Probably sometime during the relationship. But now he's upset that he lied but he knows he would never disappoint her. So now if she figures out all he's lied about to get her heart, it would disappoint her. A little complicated and confusing, but the main point: He's a nice guy, always loyal and whatnot. He's gone along with what she says to get her heart. He's never hurt her though. But now that they're together, she's bound to figure out the real him and finally disappoint her. |

"Let me apologize to begin with Let me apologize for what I'm about to say But trying to be genuine was harder than it seemed And somehow I got caught up in between" This guy is trying to get into a relationship with a girl. He's hesitant to say anything because he doesn't want to scare her away. And it's also hard to stay himself in case she won't like it. But he also can't lie about who he is. SO he's stuck 'In Between'. "Let me apologize to begin with Let me apologize for what I'm about to say But trying to be someone else was harder than it seemed And somehow I got caught up in between, between" Same as the first stanza. "My pride And my promise Between my lies and how the truth gets in the way And things I want to say to you get lost before they come The only thing that's worse than one is none" His pride would be shot if he couldn't get this girl that he really desires. And the promise he would make to her in a relationship is important. Since it's hard for him to be genuine, he makes things up, maybe to make her happy, then when the truth about him comes up, it conflicts between them. Anything he wants to tell her is useless to say because now they won't mean anything.. because he's caught up "In Between" the mess he started. The last line "The only thing that's worse than one is none": I believe he's saying that he's willing to be in a relationship with her and to at least make one person happy-- her. If they don't start a relationship, nobody's happy..? Kinda makes sense. "Let me apologize to begin with Let me apologize for what I'm about to say But trying to regain your trust was harder than it seemed And somehow I got caught up in between, between" Trying to get her to start believing things he says is tough now. He thought maybe sweet-talking her and telling her all this junk would make her heal over head for him, but there's a problem. She almost can't trust him at all now. "And I cannot explain to you And anything I say or do or plan Fear is not afraid of you But guilt's a language you can understand I cannot explain to you And anything I say or do But hope the actions speak the words they can" He can no longer find a way to express how much he desires her. Words do nothing, actions do nothing, plans/promises to her do nothing. He's saying she shouldn't be afraid that he'll hurt her... she shouldn't be afraid of him. He feels guilt for what he has done wrong, but she should understand. He hopes the love and affection he shows to her will eventually sway her towards him. So when I first heard this song, I thought it was pretty boring. But after many listens, I kinda liked it. And now, everything I described is exactly how I feel with a certain girl, which makes me like this song even more. I can't be too lenient, I can't be too pushy-- I'm caught up In Between. And many things have happened that makes it seem like she doesn't fully trust me anymore. But I hope showing her that I really do love her will change her mind. |
