to clarify: Unicron was a Transformer who would transform into a planet. He'd also eat planets (most likely crushing mountains and making nature on said plants bleed in general). I don't think the entire song is about him, just that he might have served inspiration for the title and first few lines. It'd be interesting if this was written entirely from his perspective (or at least what Sean would assume is his perspective), but that final line completely destroys that theory. |

Weezer has never really been known for Dylan-esque lyrics, so much as they have for quirky fun lyrics (for example, "shaking booty, making sweet love every night" from The Good Life). and even though the lyrics aren't the strongest that the band's written, they work well in giving life to this so called "greatest man that ever lived" (whether its about Rivers himself, or a character he created is up for debate). I think it was intentional, that there's this guy who thinks he's so awesome and important, but the only way he can describe himself is saying that he's the greatest. that said, I really, really like the "After the havoc that I’m gonna wreak, no more words will critics have to speak" line. I hope that Pitchfork Media pays special attention to that line when reviewing this album. |

Strummer called himself Woody because he loved Guthrie's work so much. However, in context of the song's title, my guess is that The Clash inspired him so much that he feels like he might've known Joe Strummer on so much of a personal level that he could refer to him by the nickname Woody. Or not, just throwing that out there really. |
