Think this is pretty straightforward. We ‘kill options’ by eliminating them or thinking the situation through until we can say for sure which is the direction that we definitely won’t be taking. This is how we ‘kill confusion’ or make up our minds. (And this part is just my opinion) To me, this song is about making that final decision not to end your own life after you had been thinking about doing so for a while. Especially because of the lines about ‘a very temporary waste of time’, which I believe to be referring to life in general. “I can't live my life on the edge of the storm” “I'm sick of emotions always tearing the inside” Life is a problem. “I've took a step to the edge but I've been walking for miles” could mean that even he’s been thinking about doing this for a long time but never very seriously but is now at the edge. Burning a bridge could mean that once you make this decision, you can never go back. But it’s “Burn no bridges to stay warm”. Perhaps to stay warm means to be finally at rest or to experience relief and content. And killing himself will burn a bridge because he can never go back and it will ‘keep him warm’ because it will make him feel at peace. But he has decided against this because we shouldn’t make such a permanent decision. |
