Please remember me fondly
I heard from someone you're still pretty.
I mean seriously, Sam, what the fuck? It's just so simple but it says so damn much. |

I think it's kind of interesting how the "million little pieces" line gets echoed in Everybody Here is a Crowd.
Regardless, this song makes me want to drive really fast when I listen to it. |

"I heard from someone you're still pretty..."
God whenever I hear that line I'm never sure whether I should smile or break down- it's just so perfect. |

So I'm going to be turning 18 in a few months, and I'll be starting to apply to college and think about leaving home and all my friends and becoming a real human being (as compared to a teenager). I'm fucking scared about it and this song so perfectly encapsulates everything I'm feeling.
A few nights ago, some friends and I layed out on the grass and looked at the stars and talked about how we're afraid to grow up- two of them were seniors leaving for college, and basically I realized that I'm going to lose so many important people in my life in only a few short weeks.
Fuck this song makes me cry. |

No, he's right. Brokencyde are complete ass and your comeback was juvenile and ineffective. |

Really? "the scene"? Fuck.
Now, after quite a few playthroughs, I've decided that Brokencyde are currently one of the worst bands this decade. I mean that.
And you bringing the fucking "scene" into it makes it even worse. That's the problem today- people think it matters whether or not you're part of the god damn scene. Who decides if I'm in the scene? Do I have to consult someone?
You know what? Fuck this retarded shit. Brokencyde is emo faggot bullshit (no, really. I used to be part of the "scene" but then I grew up.) ladled over meaningless hip hop lyrics. |

I think this song is just so awe-inspiring and gigantic- regardless of the fact that it's off of "Songs for Christmas" I'd say this could be the best song Sufjan ever wrote, if not the biggest-sounding. |

This song is about the end of the world, and the one person that everyone thinks will be able to stop it. Of course, this person already knows that the destruction of the earth is inevitable and so he's just doing what he can the make his life as complete as it could be.
This song is used in the Gears of War 2 ad, and it fits the plot of the game perfectly- you and your buddy kind of have the weight of the world on your shoulders but you know you'll be fucked regardless so you go to try and rescue your buddy's wife and child. |

Also, I'd like to add to my comment:
Anyone who sings well and owns an acoustic guitar, learn this song. It is the ultimate getter of ass in the world (I hate to bring DCFC down to that level, but truth is truth, man.) |

Luckily this one's pretty straightforward, although I guess Ben Gibbard rarely shrouds everything in metaphors so that isn't too surprising. The music video to this song is so cool (the version with Ben in the one-room apartment, not the Directions version, although that's cool too.). I think the hole in the floor in the video represents a problem, and he doesn't do anything about it so it gets bigger and bigger until he eventually just has to go down and solve it. |

Sam Beam is, if I'm listening to his songs right, very happily married with kids, and that's expressed in his songs a lot. So I think that this is more of that. Still, amazing amazing song, great way to finish off the album.
Also, whenever I hear this now I think of the end of the last season of House... |

I think it's a pretty obvious song-

| Sufjan Stevens – Sister Winter Lyrics
|
Here's my guess:
He had a girlfriend in the Summer or Fall or something that caused him to neglect his friends and family and the other people he loves in the world. Then Winter came around and they broke up and he realized what a douchebag he'd been while in the relationship, and so he comes back to apologize and celebrate the holiday. Basically.
This song, along with Star of Wonder (which I have no idea is about...), is the best track in the Christmas Collection. |

I think that this song is pretty straightforward: the future is a complete mystery, and the only thing that can reveal it is time itself. Also, it means that all questions will be answered eventually, everything will eventually happen and in the end, everyone dies. On that note, you could ask the question "Well what happens when we die? Does it end?" Nobody knows and nobody ever will know, but one day it'll happen to you and only time will tell. |

This song is straightforward enough, asking the question: How will you remember me once I die?
I think that I&W does such a sad and memorable job with that question. |

I'm surprised nobody mentioned how awesome the chorus is.
So simple, just a repeated syllable, but it's so insane and powerful. |

Such a good song, just Elton and piano with these excellent lyrics. It's just so haunting, and I love the improvisations he does with the piano. |

Now, I can especially relate to this song seeing as rape and molestation are pastimes of mine... just kidding.
Seriously though, it's more than apparent what's going on, however, it seems that around the line "You should wash your hair more" the narrative changes. Rather than telling about the horrible things that have happened to her, Conor might be talking about how later on she was a friend changed by society ("Your collar was high..."). She ignored him, and then he was sad.
Anyone else think this? |
