Eh well first of all I don't think that they used the title Amsterdam to refer to drugs or pure evil as some people said here. If you've ever been to Amsterdam, you would know that it's not some godforsaken hell on earth where everybody is completely high on drugs all day. It's actually a really nice, beautiful, old city. And heroin and opiate abuse is way higher in the us than in holland. Actually, Holland is a country with relatively few drug addicts compared to the rest of Europe and especially compared to the US. http://www.drugwarfacts.org/thenethe.htm. And also Holland doesn't come from Hole-land but from Holtland which means wooded land. The song has the title amsterdam because it was written there. |

| What Soundaddict says makes sense to me. I feel kind of the same way about this song. For me it's a very sad and unwanted breakup for both the people involved but there's just no other option. And "I'm sure you're on the way" translates to something like: I'm sure that you are trying to get better and solve your problems so we can be together again. | |

I think she does say very clearly 'would we stop to feel' The point she makes is: if you build an armour so no-one could hurt you anymore, would you still be able to love and to feel (or will you stop to feel). Anyway, this is such a magically beautiful song...it's perfect indeed. never bitter and all delicious... |

This song describes my relation of two of my friends so good, it's almost scary. The boy became depressed during their relationship and although they loved each other so much, the situation became unbearable and they had to break up. She tried to help him but he kept hurting her, not on purpose, but he just couldn't take her feelings into account because he was too busy with his own. He talked to her about his feelings all the time but not to anyone else, because he was too ashamed. He always pretended that he was totally fine to the rest of the world, but he was so sad inside. Then he did something while he was drunk that made it clear to her that she had to let him go because it was too hard for her. So she wrote him a letter that she loved him, so much, but that I didn't want to see him anymore. And it's so sad because I know that the only thing he wants is to be with her but he just isn't able to...he's too messed up. I hope they get together again when he's better, but that can take years and by that time she probably has someone else.... so sad don't you think? |
