Of all their albums, Closer is my favorite, and Briefly is my favorite song on that album besides I do. I love the opening...to me its about doing stuff or not doing stuff based on what you think other people will think of you, and thus you slowly become someone that is not you, but who you think other people want you to be. You were only alive living your own life briefly. And if that's not what it means, it's still a cool song. Per Wickipedia... "A second single, "Misunderstood," was planned, but Beyond Records declared bankruptcy before it could be released. As of early 2007, Closer is out of print due to Beyond Records going out of business and copies are fairly hard to find, though some are still in stock in stores." Sucks that what is in my opinion their best album didn't get the full push it could have since the label went bankrupt. |

I really did not like BTE for a little bit...I heard that they were kind of a**holes and it ruined them for me around the time this cd came out. Whenever I hear "Blame us because we are who we are. Hate us because you'll never get that far." it always makes me hear a we're better than you...blame us for being popular musicians, but you'll never get there...you suck and we're better than you. I did rediscover BTE a few years later and now they are one of my all time favrites. I wish I could write lyrics like Kevin Griffin.....freakin unbelievable |

AWESOME SONG....after the second "cellophane", at 2:32, the bass line is awesome...I always turn up the bass for this song and turn it loud right at that point. I found it to be all about a girl telling a guy, there's someone out there that is perfect for you, but it's not me. But everytime she talks to him or invites him over, he thinks maybe she'll realize that she is the one that is perfect for him, but she never does. And so now he is mad that she doesn't think she is the one for him, yet he still gets "overcome with joy" whenever she so much as says hi. He reads more into it then she is intending. |

| I head this song in college and it instantly meant something to me. Every time it comes on, I roll down the windows and turn it loud. For me, it was never about a girl or a relationship, it was strictly figuring out who I was and what I wanted my life to be about. All the lyrics never quite fit that thinking, and based on what other people think it means, that makes a lot of sense as opposed to self-discovery. For me, however, it will always be about someone just growing up and trying to find out who they are. thanks for the comments about the song...love to hear what other peopel think about one my all time favorite songs. | |
