this song is about elliott and a lover or best friend named mary- i think. he doesnt speak about her as if she was a mother, and i dont think she is a prostitute because i believe the bus fare he talks about is for visiting her, yet she wont let him see her anymore. because of his erradic behaviour (probably due to his manic depression and alcoholism) the relationship is on the rocks, which is why he says he wont admit to how much he loves her anymore because he knows she is going to break up with him. and so he says to himself (one day she'll go, i told you so" |
