| Coredump hit the nail on the head. Nate sings about standing up against the wicked people (worms) who try to make this world a terrible place and torment the people in it. It's depicted as a war scene in which Nate is giving his soldiers orders. "Gentlemen our faith is wounded, and yes we are wounded to" could be faith in their faith in humanity is wounded and they themselves (or their numbers) are effected by it. "They've come out from the swamp but we, we stand on both legs" meaning they are coming for us but we can triumph over them. "They will roll over and over again" is how worms move, meaning they will keep coming. "Another lonely pacifist lying in the sun" meaning they have killed the peace. "There is no ground control, MAYDAY" means no one is trying to contain it and that we're all going down the drain. The next part is about taking action against them swiftly and quietly "breath not a word of this...we all must bear witness". "I will not watch this all come down" meaning I will not let them drag us down with them and destroy everything we've stood for. Then he warns them "Careful boy...absence of heart makes a boy, a man, a monster" meaning if you don't hang on to those morals and the nobility inside you, you become just like them...monsters | |

I think it's funny that anyone could think this is a love song. He's at a party and he's bored "This party is old and univiting, participants all in black and white" then a girl comes in that stands out in the crowd "you enter in full blown technicolor" and he makes his move, "Nothing is same after tonight". "If the world would fall apart in a fiction worthy wind, I wouldn't change a thing now that your here." Is him sweet talking her and being smooth. Second verse. He get's her alone and he's ready to do what he came to do. "You enter and close the door behind you, now show me a world seen from the stars" then the lights go down and they strip "if only the lights would dim a little, I'm weary of eyes upon my scars. "Love is a verb here in my room" gives it away, that right now in his room, love is nothing BUT a verb. "pink tractor beam into your incision" penis into vagina...to put it bluntly. "head spinning as free as dervish's whirl" it simply feels good AND THE MOST OBVIOUS SIGN THAT THIS IT NOT A LOVE SONG. "I came here expecting next to nothing, so thank you for being that kind of girl" He wasn't expecting much, and the girl he hooked up with wasn't anything special to him...she's next to nothing. |

I think it's about a wife leaving her husband. The husband loved her but she was just surviving off of him. The first verse I think is the wife talking. She's telling him to suck it up (all of your crying will do you no good, stand up and straighten yourself. Just one of your moods.) Then she says "I'm selling the family now to the highest bidder" meaning she's found someone else who can better support her. "structures come crumbling down" is the family falling apart and "blessing the bruise" means he's trying to make something (his marriage) into something it's not. Then the second verse the guy/husband is talking. He says "It's easy to forget you heart when leaving behind" meaning don't forget your heart as if it weren't something important to her. "How dare you compare you pain with that look in her eyes" sounds like sarcasm like "how dare you compare your pain and suffering to her cold remorsless stare". Then he starts calling her out on the things she has been hiding "I'm still calling surface to surface of lies" then "you captive the dark" meaning she's holding on (captive) to the dark which are secrets/the unknown. The chorus would be the husband talking: "Take cover, run as fast as you can, fast as you can against the wind. It's all over, so long" Meaning he's telling her to just go ahead and go, and he's saying goodbye. "Blood on your hands" meaning she hurt him or stole his heart (hence the name "chinese ORGAN THIEVES") but he'll be alright he's not dead ("I Am Alive") "Because of you the solitude of love can feel so sore" meaning she is the reason it hurts to be alone in love "Blood above your door" like the story of the passover where God's chosen people were told to smear lamb's blood over their doors in order to prevent the angel of death from killing their firstborn son, the wife used the husband's blood (or money)over the door to keep away the her personel angel of death (poverty, being homeless, etc.) "Body rhythm come together for an eyesore" Body rhythm=heartbeat. Eyesore=something offensive to the eyes. So two hearts come together to make something aweful. This could be completely wrong. Sounds pretty good though. I FRAKKIN LOVE FINCH. This song is epic. |

I'll break this song down piece by piece: "One devotion to an empty moment, Can you stay tonight?" The guy feels that something is wrong and asks his girl to stay. "Silence broken by words unspoken, now she's on her knees" The awkward silence is broken when she begins telling him things that she hasn't been telling him, and she is crushed by how much she has hurt him to the point falling to her knees "No more feeling so useless, "Can I beg for one more" she says"" Now that she has it off her chest she doesn't have to feel useless anymore, and she asks for another chance. "Taking with arms wide open, longing for sleep again" She agrees to do whatever he wants just as long as she can rest easy at night. "The air is clearing, again we're breathing, water turns to wine" The argument is over (Biblical Reference: Jesus turns water to wine for celebration) "The day is tired, the night's inside her, now she is alive" The girl feels tired and is able to fall asleep again and believes everything has returned to normal. The chorus repeats and then Nate sings "but now I'm awake" as if to say that what she revealed to him so deeply disturbed him that now he can't sleep. "Keep breathing to feel something, take my breath away" says that she may be fine but now he is the one suffering. I'm not sure about every detail but I'm absolutely positive I've got the central message of this song. |
