I believe some of the lyrics are about god and some about the break up. Like how you look for god in everyday things like statues and love and things. idk if they all are. |

| It is definitely about loneliness but he is also wondering what got him there. The lying or the pride. He seems to be regretful of the things that he's done that've caused his loneliness. | |

| I just want to say in general. Fiances don't leave their engagement over nothingness; over inferences from songs. I'm sure that you know that you always wish to trust your partner and believe them so she wouldn't of left over something like that. What made her leave? did he cheat did he not. Well he sure as heck did something that made it impossible for her to stay. | |

“If all our life is but a dream Fantastic posing greed Then we should feed our jewelry to the sea For diamonds do appear to be Just like broken glass to me” This line is about the meaningless ness of material possessions. May have something to do with Buddhism where this is an ideal. “And then she said she can’t believe Genius only comes along in storms of fabled foreign tongues” She can’t believe that true “genius” has only come from things like the bible, the Koran, the torah (ect.). All written in languages we can no longer read. “Tripping eyes and flooded lungs Northern downpour sends its love” Avoiding the drug reference, this tripping could do with a jarring experience. Flooding lungs imply drowning, drowning in the northern downpour. “Hey moon, please forget to fall down Hey moon, don’t you go down” These lines are about not wanting a night to end. Not about dreaming. “Sugarcane in the easy morning Weathervanes my one and lonely” Avoiding another possible drug reference (coke). This could have to do with something in the country. The southern farms that grow sugar cane, the weather vanes may also reference the country. I think he’s passing through the country thinking about this girl. “The ink is running toward the page It’s chasing off the days Look back at both feet and that winding knee I missed your skin when you were east You clicked your heels and wished for me” He’s writing this trying to make time pass faster. Looking back as he’s still going still walking. He’s talking about missing her when she was gone or while he was gone. Obviously he came back. “Through playful lips made of yarn That fragile Capricorn Unravelled words like moths upon old scarves Yarn lips may mean that the lips are thin. The girl was born between dec 22 and jan 19. She unraveled words like moth upon old scarves. Moths eat scarves. So she made him speak probably about himself probably more then he’d say to another person. “I know the world’s a broken bone But melt your headaches call it home” This is pretty much the world is broken but it’s our home so just accept it. “You are at the top of my lungs” You’re on the top of my lungs. He could be speaking her name. The mouth is at the top of your lungs. It almost perfectly could be replaced with the phrase “with you’re on the tip of my tongue”. “Drawn to the ones who never yawn” He’s drawn to the ones never tired. This song seems to partly about being on the road and missing a girl. Thinking introspectively about life and not wanting things to end and even perhaps a fear of aging. |
