I see that as someone viewing death in more of a positive way because they believe in the after life and half empty is looking at death as a complete end. |

I know not all of Elliott Smith songs are about drugs, like Baby Britian, but this is seriously one of them and if you can't interpret that I feel sorry for you. |

I think this song is about drugs. "I'm in love with the world through the eyes of a girl." You can't love the world, with all of corruption, through the eyes of another human being. You can love the world under the influence - it's the only way I can. He doesn't realize that he's matured after quitting, but he's still back to the same old habits - "the morning after."
"She decide what she wants." A person doesn't have control of a substance; a substance has control over you. That's why people who feel like they can't handle and control their own life love substances because they don't have to - something else is doing it for them.
"Say yes" is at the end of the song which is odd since it's what started the whole thing. He said yes and that's why he wrote the song, but ironically it's at the end.
My favorite line of the song:"Happy day then you pay/ Feel like shit the morning after."
Karma - no matter what it gets you. You have to pay for actually enjoying something. A good and a bad to everything.
I used to look at this song as if it were about a relationship, but when you look at it about being about drugs makes it so much sadder. Anyone can write a love song about a girl, but to write a love song about drugs is more impressive. People have to actually figure out the real meaning behind it. |
