The therapist is the re-incarnation of the killer, if you listen right at the end of Scene Nine - Finally Free, he says "Open your eyes Nicholas" which is exactly the same line as the killer who says "Open your eyes Victoria". Re-incarnated bodies who have had a strong connection in the past, it is said, attract each other, and live out the same issues again, and again.
