| No other Christian song speaks to me like this song. Thousands, and probably millions of Christian songs out there in all sorts of genres. And most of the ones you hear about are always talking about how wonderful it is to be a Christian and how joyous life is. Truly, though, being a Christian is a world of struggle, pain, and desperation. Sure, it has it's ups, but being a pure and righteous person in an un-pure and unrighteous world is the greatest burden one being can take upon themselves. Jesus understood this more than anyone, and He was the ultimate sacrifice for humanity. If people think being a Christian (or Catholic in some cases) means you're life is wonderful and grand, and that Christians are nothing more than brainwashed psychos then they don't know anything. All they know are the ones who participate in actual brainwashing, and the ones who don't know what TRUE Christianity is. Real Christians suffer every day, all the time, and struggle with faith, life and hope in humanity. I know I do. Every day, it's becoming harder and harder for me to follow the footsteps of God, of Christ, but somehow, I just keep going. This song describes perfectly how much we Christians struggle with our faith and how hard it can be to find the strength and faith to keep moving and moving. For me, this song talks about how you cannot let the world dictate your relationship with God. Your relationship is between you and the Lord, and no others, and if you let others come in between that, you will never find peace. That mindset helps me keep going. Never, NEVER let the world tell you this and that, always follow the Lord, and in time, likely a very long time, you will find peace and happiness forever. Keep the faith. | |

Wrong, my friend. I wont look it up anywhere, because everything, including yourself, misunderstand Christianity. God doesn't require us to go to church. If anything, He is against organized religion, yes, but did you know religion is not mentioned once in the Bible? If the Bible makes no reference to religion, then Jesus' didn't like the idea of it too much, because He never talked about it. He only spoke of believers and non-believers, as did His followers. All Christ wants you to do, is be more like Him. Not go to church, and not to preach to everyone. Just to do as He would do in your daily life. Religion requires more than that. If you mentioned my name in your first post, I am obviously included in it. So YOU need to go back and check your first post, pal. I'm being confrontational because I feel a need to stand up for my beliefs. I get tired of Christians saying, "Stop wasting your time with them! It just creates more fighting" No, I wont. I'm not trying to pick a fight, I'm standing up for myself. I'm tired of just letting these people trash my Lord. Christ stood up for me a long time ago, I owe Him. Do I need to get physical, deliver hate-full messages? Of course not! That's not what God would have me do. But I'm certain He wouldn't have me just let people walk over me. |

| I disagree. I think supporting the troops and not the war makes perfect sense. To this day, I'm scratching my head as to why President Bush ordered the War in Iraq, but I REFUSE to believe it had to do with oil because that theory just doesn't make sense. However, while I don't understand the War in Iraq, I can still stand behind our troops over there, and hope they get the job done so they can come home sooner. Because whether we like it or not, a responsibility has been thrust upon them, and it's their duty to carry it out, and I believe that while we don't agree with our politicians, it's our duty as Americans to support the boys and girls over there. | |

One: I NEVER said Christianity was a religion. I believe Christianity is a FAITH and a RELATIONSHIP, NOT a religion. I am anti-religion. Two: I am not saying this song is anti-Christianity. I am replying to everyone here who IS attacking Christianity. My point is that any song that has a basis of anti-religion, people automatically pin it to Christianity (which again, I believe is NOT a religion). I am not saying this song is directed towards Christianity. It is directed towards pretty much Religion itself, although I believe these guys may be pointing at Christianity. I'm saying the PEOPLE here are directing it towards Christianity. |

That's a very ignorant reply. I don't see anywhere he indicates Conservatives are the war-hungry bastards, nor does he say liberals, Democrats or Republicans are. He's talking about politicians in general. Not once does he mention, or describe the principles of EITHER party. It's the whole of the political leadership he's referring to, and how they are all willing to throw young lives out there, and start saying, "We are winning!" to the public. It's not the politicians who are winning, it's the soldiers who are. All the politicians did, was point the direction for the US military to go, and they did EVERYTHING else. Fought, bled, died and kicked ass. Hate Conservatives like myself all you like, but don't start interpreting a political song as a bash on us, just because it's a bash song. As a Conservative man, I can say I am anti-war, but you don't understand that it doesn't mean I wouldn't risk it to save the innocent. I'd love a peaceful solution, but if someone threatens the safety of my people, I'd go take those guys out before they take me out in a heartbeat. |

| My Silent Wake – The Dying Things We Die For Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
Reading and getting more into these lyrics, call me a crazy Christian for trying to relate every song to God, but it seems as though he is speaking with Christian, or religious beliefs. When he says, "And when at last we breathe our final precious breath... I hope there's something more, what are we hoping for?" It seems like he is talking about when we die, he hopes there is a heaven and that there is someone out there watching over. And he also seems doubtful at the same time, "What are we hoping for?". "Without a guiding hand, we wonder endlessly" -That's pretty wide open right there. He's saying without some kind of guide, moral beliefs or faith in a supreme being, we wonder without purpose or meaning, and with the means only to survive, at whatever cost, which would lead to anarchy and total chaos. "Am I a fool to seek release from all that's killing me?" -He's talking about how Atheists say Christians and religious people make up God in order to make them feel better and give them hope. Everyone wants to be happy, and he is asking if it is stupid and foolish to try and find happiness, and hope for the sin he has dealt, because after all, everyone wants to be happy. And what fool wants to just be miserable? "When Time has passed for once held certainties, a need remains: A refuge from your misery" -Not too sure about this one, but it seems as though he talks about our slow and steady fall into Evolutionism and Atheism. As the time passes and we slowly climb into the belief that nothing is certain, and everything is just mere chance, we will still have trouble trying to escape the presence of the Lord. "And on my knees I've cried to you for battles to be won. Will you be standing there when the dying is done?" -He is obviously speaking to someone. He describes this someone as wise and very knowledgeable, because it seems as if this being knows of the end to come and it will not affect him/her. That's what I'm getting from this. I hate to sound like a Christian trying to relate every song to God, but it really comes out in this one. I don't know if these guys are Christian, but their lyrics sure imply it. |

| Five Finger Death Punch – Salvation Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Stereotyping, is what this is. Everyone labels Christians as one whole. And I love how seemingly everyone, EVERYONE who is Atheist, attacks solely Christianity. I couldn't understand at first, but the source of the constant bash on Christianity more than the rest is fear, and no, that's not a threat. | |
| My Silent Wake – The Dying Things We Die For Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| The song is called The Dying Thing's We're Living For, not Dying For. And I think the song is about the search and struggle for hope in the future. The title describes that we are living and striving for things that are decaying and are of no real value. It's a pretty deep song. | |
| Oh, Sleeper – BREATHING BLOOD Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
It does seem like a song about finding Christ, or as I like to say, Christ taking you. He speaks as a man who seems like he wants to believe, but just can't seem to find it. "If death is victory, how afraid of life can we be?" I love that line. I think it means that if letting go of your pride, giving your life to Christ is the greatest achievement, then how terrible could the world be to us? What more can they do than what God can? We are to fear the Lord and nothing else. I also like to refer to this line as the Martyr's Philosophy. It does describe the mindset of a martyr, good or bad. Just thought I'd throw that in there. "Only cowards keep dormant their sleeping strength, and soon you'll find, only the fearless will reach their potentials peak" That is also an amazing line, and may be my favorite, because that can go with anyone. Christian or not, if you show no fear to the merciless world, then nothing can keep you from your goals. |

| Red – Breathe Into Me Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
The song has nothing to do with committing suicide. That's the thing with people who don't understand Christianity. I don't mean to go on a bashing spree, but you people need to realize that in Christianity, the battles between good and evil are purely SPIRITUAL. When you read lyrics about a Christian song, everything, EVERYTHING has to do with the spirit. When death and destruction are described, it is a SPIRITUAL meaning. The fact that Christianity is focused on the spirit is what separates it from other beliefs. Any Christian or non-Christian that thinks when they speak of death as a physical meaning knows nothing. It is all spiritual. That aside, the song is about falling away from God. He is in a desperate situation, NOT suicidal. His life is fading away, and he is crying to God in desperation to breath His life into him, because he wants to believe. My favorite line would have to be, "And this is how it hurts when I pretend I don't feel any pain," Because that completely describes me. I always hide my anguish and my sorrow. I never speak of my sins because I am so ashamed of it. So, I pretend nothing is wrong, and it tears me apart inside. |

| Oh, Sleeper – SON OF THE MORNING Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
I think the song speaks about our ego and pride taking control. In the beginning, I believe he is speaking as a man who has great power, like a king or something, who believes he has the power to defeat evil by himself by conquering, and he speaks to God, calling Him a "weak forgiver", and saying to God, "wasting power on grace" saying that God is basically weak and too forgiving, basically challenging the Lord. And he also says, "Don't send an angel to face the devil", he's saying that angels can't beat the devil, but he, a simple man can. And then the chorus kicks in with the Lord saying, "If you could see like Me you'd see you haven't won anything... If you could see like Me you'd see it's by My grace you're breathing." That's God scolding this man, telling him that he is nothing special, and that he truly knows nothing. And after the chorus, is God speaking, telling this man His wrath and who will always be the conqueror over all, because in the end the Lord WILL have them all. We are the egotistical man, displaying our pride and how it makes us blind, unable to see like the Lord. Awesome song! I think we're in for another awesome hit from Oh, Sleeper. |

| Oh, Sleeper – The Sirens Song Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| My dad told me one time that Satan was described as being beautiful, and extremely seductive. I think the Sirens represent Satan and how beautiful he can appear. With that beauty, he seduces us and draws nearer to the darkness. This song describes so well an on-going spiritual battle, and when your need among your fellow brothers in Christ is dire, you turn from it and take beauty and lust instead. While a spiritual battle constantly wages on within ourselves, we still need each other, all under God if we want a chance to defeat sin. And when one turns away, everyone else suffers as a consequence. Maybe not the battle, but without a doubt, heartbreak. | |
| DC Talk – Red Letters Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| The blood of Christ is an interesting theory, but Red Letters means the verses in the Bible that represent Christ speaking. In those words are love, truth, hope for the hopeless and peace and forgiveness. I'm almost positive that's what they mean. I don't see how the blood of Christ refers to letters. | |
| P.O.D. – Anything Right (feat. Christian Lindskog) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I think this song is about someone being frustrated with his imperfection, and feeling that God may be being arrogant. Don't get me wrong, it's not a bash on God. But I know I'm not the only Christian out there who doesn't think sometimes that, "man, trying to be like Christ is so hard and frustrating" and sometimes that He just purposely makes it impossible for us. I guess you could relate it to personal matters, but for me, it's too much related to God. "You're lovely, so beautiful, and You're perfect in every way" and "It makes sense to You, all these things You do. You got it all figured out while everyone is confused," that's pretty much a red flag right there. Describing God's perfection, and how He always knows what's going on.. He's just frustrated because he can't be Christlike... He can't do anything right. | |
| P.O.D. – Ghetto Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
I think this song has to do with, of course, the world, but in a sense that hope seems so far gone, but still always there. I think he is expressing that though it seems lost, he believes it is still there, and we can't let our differences separate us. "We might never really agree on anything about the lives we live" He's talking about maybe a Christian to an Atheist, for example. We can't let our beliefs tear us apart. While living different lifestyles, we must always remember we are equal in everything like imperfection, and if we just stop and try to work things out, rather than spew hatred and make the world a cruel place, things could be better. So he's talking about finding hope in a world just torn apart, and to not let the pain of this world bring you down. Never lose hope. |
|
| DC Talk – Say The Words Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I agree with most of the above, but like what goddess said, it has a lot to do with people who are afraid to say it. They're afraid that they wont get the same thing back, and resort to, "If you don't try/say it, you wont lose anything" and we can't live by that. "Some just assume we already know of the love that they feel". I can almost completely relate to that line. Later in the song, during the bridge, he says with a strong voice, "Don't be afraid of the words, 'I love you!'" Don't be afraid to say "I love you!" Because you many never get another chance. This is a song the world really needs to know of. | |
| Switchfoot – Dare You To Move Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
A young person, I'll go ahead and say a boy, or young man-- any age, has hit the floor, hard. The world is a cruel place, and nothing is free. "Welcome to the planet. Welcome to existence" Welcome to the world, the cruel and harsh world. Everyone is here. The man has lived a hard life, spiritually. Maybe personally, but within himself, a spiritual battle destroys him. Between "who you are and who you could be" and between "how it is and how it should be". When something happens, everyone expects something of you. What will you do? What happens next? Will you forsake "who you are" for "who you could be"? Will you let what happens happen? Or will you help make it what it should be? Back and forth, shoulder to shoulder, he finally can't take it anymore. Day by day, he sins and falls, forever cursed by his imperfection. Until one final strike of sin cripples his spirit so that he falls and cries. He does something so unforgivable. Who could forgive such a man? Such a sinner? He feels this is the end and that no one will help him. He's alone in this cruel world that has brought him down. But, a voice in his head challenges him. "I dare you to move", it says. It dares him to take what has been given to him, and make something of it. To show that it is not in your brightest hours, but in your darkest hours that your true strength shows. Will you get up, "lift yourself up off the floor" and keep going for the sake of movement, love and sacrifice, despite the gash in your bleeding heart? Or will you lay down and watch the sky slowly darken and fade away, too afraid to take another gash anywhere. Is the pain too unbearable? The voice dares him to show what he is truly made of, get up and move on like "today never happened before". Never look back. And he begins to realize that maybe there is still hope. So long as he's alive, hope always remains. If you are alive and breathing, it is obviously because it's not your time, yet. So make something with it, while you still have time. "Maybe redemption has stories to tell... Maybe forgiveness is right where you fell." Yet while he now understands why he is alive, he still longs to escape his imperfect body. Where could he run to escape himself? "Where are you going to go?" And then it happens... Salvation finds him. That's just what I get from this. |

| Living Sacrifice – Imminent War Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I think he's talking about the many wars between Muslim people, and not completely just Israel's struggle against the whole Middle-East. "Lines are drawn in the sand" tells me that people divide themselves up in many different groups that believe their way is the true way of Allah and they just blow each other up for it. He is referring to Israel's right to live, and that Israel shall never fall, because they are God's chosen people, and God will not allow Israel to be destroyed. I think it also can be taking a shot at liberals who think we can reason with these people. "No such thing as coexist, no such thing as peace protest", he's thinking like these terrorists and how they will not settle for anything but the annihilation of all "infidels". | |
| mortal treason – One Hour From Forever Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I believe that, in short, this song is talking about how we may not really know if we are going to live with God in Heaven, or be damned into Hell forever. All that we can know, is that everyone WILL see the Lord. Every single person will stand before the lord, and as my favorite line in the song puts it, "We all will see", which should be the last line of the song, but isn't. | |
| Living Sacrifice – Reach For The Sky Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I can't believe that no one is commenting on this song. This song is one of Living Sacrifice's classics. The chords are amazing and it makes me feel strong, and just makes me speechless. | |
| Oh, Sleeper – Charlatan's Host Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| The music blends in perfectly with the lyrics. It sets the mood of someone who is truly full of grief and sorrow. I really like the part when he cries out, "Don't give up on me, don't give up on me!" Beautiful song. Oh, Sleeper is definitely one of my favorites. | |
