| The Academy Is... – Winter Passing Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I fell in love with the acoustic version the first time I heard it. It is such a gorgeous song, and William Beckett is absolutely brilliant on an acoustic. This song brought tears to my eyes when they played it live on Bill & Trav's. It seems that everyone has a different opinion on the two versions. When making the comparison between the regular version and the acoustic, I think that it depends on which you heard first. In my personal opinion, the version that was released to iTunes on 12/2 was not as good as the acoustic version played live. I just think that this song sounds more (appropriately) emotional when acoustic. The 12-2 version has a more upbeat vibe, and I don't think that's right for this song. It also sounds a bit techy and computerized, and I just don't think those factors go along with these lyrics. This song is definitely about the holidays and the feelings associated with winter time. The holidays are supposed to be a time of joy/family/love, but are more often more accomponied with stress and sorrow than anything, and this song points that out. Winter Passing seems to also be about losing a relationship and getting rejected by someone who just doesn't feel the same anymore during a time that relationships are supposed to be blooming. For being such a heartthrob, I find it odd that many of Beckett's songs seem to reference such negative relationships, ha just kidding. But your voice rang clear. "You said, 'For all I thought I’d ever need, It's hard to face the holidays without.' Well, I’ve left my last message on your machine. It's hard to face the holidays when you’re looking for the words to say. When you're looking for the words to say." I really believe that these lines are about a conversation between him and (possibly) the girl of his affection. She's telling him that he's not giving her what she wanted, and he's telling her that he doesn't know what else he can say. "So you’ve found a friend. You spend all your cold nights with him, But if I was there, Then I’d wonder why you still wear my jacket, Closed with traces of my scent." These lines are definitely referencing how his former love has already found someone new, but he's telling her that she hasn't forgotten him yet, as seen in the "Then I’d wonder why you still wear my jacket, Closed with traces of my scent. Just my interpretation. |

| The Academy Is... – Same Blood Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I think that the refereneces to August in this song could symbolize a romance or a relationship he had with someone that occured during that month. "You remind me of August, the way that I still care about all the things that you promised, when I was still around, pick you up and drive you down" This line shows that the most out of the whole song. I think this song is also about how this person that he's referencing throughout the song has broken all their promises to him, and how he's never going to forget that, and he's always going to care about this person and the memories he has with them. He also wants to make a point to this person - that we're all humans, "we are the same blood." So why can't this person just make a point of caring about him as much as he cares about them? That's my interpretation. I agree with queenofproverbialBS and tigerlily963. |

| Self Against City – Even The Strong Won't Survive Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| It's about how he's confused, and he doesn't know why: but pretty much everything is going wrong in his life. He just wants everyone to stop telling him what to do or how to act and do something for himself for once. | |
| My American Heart – Dangerous Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| This song is one of their best, it's very unexpected from them because it's pretty mellow, yet it's so powerful when you listen to it. His voice is beautiful with the lyrics. The song is definitely about how he wants to love her, but he knows that it's not going to work for many different reasons. The references to the seasons could mean that he's been dealing with this for a long time. | |
| My American Heart – In Between Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I think that "in between" could describe an ex-with-benefits relationship, and how heartbreaking it is for him to go through it. He wants a relationship with the person that the song is about, but she is making him wait for something that might not even happen. I'm thinking that this girl used to date him because he is dreaming about their memories, and everything that she does/everything that happens is confusing him. | |
