I think it's about depression. "blue eyes" is like sad eyes, not necessarily a blue eyed man. "you take a pill wondering if it will fix you, then wonder why sorry has never left you" anti depressants not working? "I've been watching how you behave, not much like a lover, more like a slave." He's noticing because her behavior is out of the ordinary, and he has to notice, he's not just watching cause he wants. Being sad over a broken heart is normal...that line differentiates it between normal breakup sadness and depression. its actually a beautiful song, and nails ithe feeling perfectly. I love the guitar in the beginning also. |

i agree...get your ears checked. no fortuna, no balloona (?) etc, etc, but this song is SOOO beautiful. i love it. It was on a cd that i listened to when i went to sleep, and it was like a perfect song to listen to then...just beautiful. |

could be about marijuana, but looking at the lyrics of "plane" i think that one is too. It's kinda obvoius that he's had a problem with it.. i think he's fine now, idk, haha my obsessive self knows that from reading his online journal. but i like this song a lot, he has an amazing voice, and it shows here, i thought it was about human flaws, with references to mj as an example. but the "product of a seed. the seed is sown, all alone" thats referring to the "30 meters and a foot" tree. something so huge and amazing is the product of something so little as a seed. hmmm not a marijuana plant i guess... oh yeah, and the "we're all breathing in" part... well plants do provide oxygen, not just mary jane zach. jsyk. so maybe this song is about how we as humans have the potential to do great things, but we're flawed in nature, but we are working on those flaws, and will overcome them soon "only human, so far, so far" it keeps referring to this "tree" (that i doubt is a marijuana plant) metaphorical?? for what? many things haha but thats part of the meaning's mystery. |

amazing song. really, one of his best, maybe one of THE best. one reason it appealed to me, was the mystery of the meaning. At first i thought it was about leaving a girl, getting on a plane...same old same old. "dear xray machine, pretend you dont know me so well i wont tell if you lied" saying that he's been through that xray machine many times before, taveling a lot. so at first i thought that this was about saying goodbye to a lover. then i saw a live version on youtube, where he sings it differently, faster, and he sorta goes off on a tangent, saying stuff like "ive been getting so high, so high" there's just a different feeling about that version. it could be about pot too, "clean out the reds in my eyes to get by security lines" and his relationship with drugs (is this totally crazy??) almost like he is dependent on them, and he's at a low point after being high, like he's giving them up. It could be about both, there are many meanings to the song. btw fave line "drinking cause you're looking so good in your starbucks cup" and "damn, i should be so lucky, even only 24 hrs under your touch you know i need you so much" |

he has a beautiful voice. this song is just as beautiful. I love the beachyness, and it just makes the listener feel good. i especially like the version where he scats at the end and rolls his tongue. makes me smile :) anyone who can write something that has such an effect on someone is an artist. |
