It is a brilliant song, the lyrics are amazing. I like to think it is about a Thoreau-like distancing from society. Regardless, the lyrics are great and so is the song. |

you know it was a song before Nike bought it? This song is amazing, Wiliiams has an uncanny ability to snatch angst and anger and put it into melody. His new CD, The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of NiggyTardust! is going to be great. About meaning, every line means something. This whole song appears to hold similar views to the great Malcolm X. But I think that what Williams does here, is relate the equality struggle with the struggle between the masses and their oppressors (i.e. big business, politicians, and so forth). "Hand to mouth" has to be the greatest part of this song, meaning he isn't taking anymore shit, and he will do what he says, which I think is the common denominator in this song. |
