Games we don't want to play Same winner everyday Kill for the second best Feel no more, feel no less We have our minutes cut We lose our feelings but That's what the movies show This is where stories go - This makes me think of death/after life. Their minutes are cut meaning, their time ended, they died. Since they're dead they have no feelings. Movies show afterlife a lot, in a sense of heaven or whatever. All stories usually end with an afterlife of some sort for those who die. - What way is it that they die though? To me it seems to be talking about suicide. "Kill for the second best" is one of the reasons I get that idea, they seem to be fed up. Stars we don't want to reach Scars we don't want to stitch Go where we haven't been Fly away, time machine Cloud we will chase him out Crowds, we will face them down This is our secret place Outer space, outer space Our home forever is outer space Black stars and endless seas, outer space New home, new destinies, outer space Forever we'll be in Outer space, outer space - Going where they haven't been. And they have scars they don't wanna stitch, leaving them vulnerable yet strong (also confirming the suicide thought). The crowds they'll no longer have to deal with. - The word forever I always connect to something beyond our time as living. So naturally this is their forever now, Outer Space. Their new home. Ground we don't want to feel Found what they didn't steal Time, we were really lost Bridges burnt, fingers crossed We, shall we ever be free With no guarantee Life on another plane Same before, same again Go where you want to go So no one ever knows Only what we decide Is it gone Has it died Dry every tear in my eye You can tell me why This is our secret place Outer space, outer space - "They" (the crowds) could never possibly steal this afterlife, their forever, their timelessness and free place. - Wondering if this place will actually make them free, if it'll just be the same as before. There's really no guarantee for knowing if dying will possibly be any better. Our home forever is, outer space Black stars and endless seas, outer space New home, new destinies, outer space Forever we'll be in Outer Space, outer space Outer space is where we get together And this place we're meant to be Stars are dancing and the time is fading Dead forever, You and me, You and me Racing stars and common moons are planets In the cosmos, we are free There's no atmosphere And no obsessions It'll always be It'll always be Our home forever is, outer space... - Outer space is where we go when we die, "where we get together" and where we're "meant to be". They're dead forever. - Outer Space will always just "be". And then it continues to say "always be our home forever". I think alternatively it could be about high expectations from others that you actually don't want to do and follow. And simply giving a big "F You" and doing your own thing. And not to forget the hot lesbian space sex. Haha. Sorry for the long post. |

I agree that this is probably about step father and being abused like many others have said. But I also know Elliott wanted his music to speak to others in whatever way it would mean to them. So I'm gonna share what this song means to me personally. "I'm going out sleepwalking Where mute memories start talking" "The boss that couldn't help but hurt you And the pretty thing he made desert you" - Sleepwalking being a sort of numb state, memories you've put on mute get too strong and start talking. - "The boss" to me is God, "the pretty thing" is a girlfriend. God hurt him and girlfriend left him. "I'm going out now like a baby A naïve unsatisfiable baby" "Grabbing onto whatever's around For the soaring high or the crushing down With hidden cracks that don't show But that constantly just grow" - A feeling after a break up, babies crave love and attention, they're naive. - A desperation, feeling so sad you just have to grab onto something, soaring high or a crushing down, both bad but it's something. He won't show it, and it just keeps growing. "I'm looking for the man that attacked me While everybody was laughing at me You beat it in me that part of you But I'm going to split us back in two" - He didn't want to fall in love to begin with, it was beaten into him. Now he can be by himself again. - The attacked part could be a guy the girl went to. "Tired of living in a cloud If you're going to say shit now you'll do it out loud It's 2:45 in the morning And I'm putting myself on warning For waking up in an unknown place With a recollection you've half erased Looking for somebody's arms to Wave away past harms I'm walking out on center circle The both of you can just fade to black I'm walking out on center circle Been pushed away and I'll never go back" - Looking for someones arms would be another girl, an embrace, someone to help him forget. - His ex and the guy she's with now gets a big "Fuck you" and since he's been pushed away from her, he'll never come back. Which I connect to the "tired of living in a cloud - saying shit" lines as being like the ex girlfriend paints pictures of them getting back together sometime etc etc. he's just tired of it and made his mind up that he wont ever come back to her. Well this song sums up my love life at the moment so I guess that's why it's speaking to me in this way. And I'll have to add, I love this song. But then again I love every single song Elliott made. He's my idol. |

| Sigur Rós – Svefn-G-Englar Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I agree as many others have said, this song seems to be about birth/pregnancy. Ég Er Kominn Aftur Inn I Þig Það Er Svo Gott Að Vera Hér En Stoppa Stutt Við Eg Flýt Um I Neðarsjávar Hýði A Hóteli Beintengdur Við Rafmagnstöfluna Og Nærist (I’m Here Again Inside You It’s So Good Staying Here But I Stay A Short While I Float Around In Underwater Hibernation In A Hotel Connected To The Electricity Board And Nourishing) The thing about this part that makes me wonder is the first line "I’m Here AGAIN inside you". It's about rebirth but what kind it is I can only speculate about. It could be his own baby and in that way a kind of rebirth of himself. Could also be a spiritual rebirth etc etc. Could just be metaphorically speaking as well. "Underwater Hibernation" and "Connected To The Electricity Board And Nourishing" just gives the typical image of a baby in a womb. The umbilical cord and water. En Biðin Gerir Mig Leiðan - Brot Hættan Sparka Frá Mér Og Kall A - Verð Að Fara – Hjálp (But The Wait Makes Me Uneasy – I Kick The Fragility Away And Shout – I Have To Go - Help) Labour.. Eg Spring Ut Og Friðurinn I Loft Upp Baðaður Nýju Ljósi Eg Græt Og Eg Græt – Aftengdur Onýttur Heili Settur A Brjóst Og Mataður Af Svefn-G-Englum (I Explode Out And The Peace Is Gone Bathed In New Light I Cry And I Cry - Disconnected A Ruined Brain Put On Breasts And Fed By Sleepwalkers) The birth, exposed to the new world. Birth cord being cut and the crying. What I don't get is the "Sleepwalkers". I won't go into details anymore but like I said earlier though this could all just be metaphorically about being safe and in a wonderful calm, and then exposed to the noisy stressful world. You could also relate it to being in love. It could be about religion. I could even go as far and relate it to drugs. A song is what you make it... |
