Reptar – Houseboat Babies Lyrics 13 years ago
this song is the emmer effin JAM!!! there are a few discrepancies between these lyrics and the ones on Reptar's webpage:

"a topless young you" on their website is " a tupper's young ewe", which who knows what the hell that means, but anyway...

"i look for bad ends" = " i look for balance"

the lyrics at the last part are "sweat sweat sweat human".

as far as the meaning goes, i think this is a pretty sexy song about sex! "I'm getting so much better with my hands on your skin", "entwined, your body's white lines", etc. I think the bit about "it makes me angry when you are sitting next to me" is about sexual frustration. I'm not sure about the Cupid/Holly part.... but the "come into your body" bit is pretty clear!

Anyway, this song was my #1 dance jam this past summer and hearing it straight up makes me smile. Love it!!

Silversun Pickups – Kissing Families Lyrics 15 years ago
i also think this song is about dysfunctional and abusive families. i think the line "its no wonder that we did it this way" refers to how behaviors in a family are learned from the previous generation and passed on to the next, often without being considered or examined, because they are how people learn to be and all they know. i think it may have to do with getting to a place of compassion for one's parents, the ones who screwed up and screwed you up, because you start to see that they came from the same type of parents, and their parents before them, etc. so it is sort of inevitable that this behavior connects through the whole family. just my 2 cents, great song.

My Morning Jacket – Phone Went West Lyrics 15 years ago
I really like the interpretations here. I think clovus' is possible, but i'm leaning more towards the interpretation that they are exes and he wants her back. i also feel like he's sitting in a bar, thinking about this, wanting to go over and see if the back door is unlocked like it used to be when they were together. I think he's saying "tell me i'm wrong" as in tell me that we both don't totally still love eachother, you're not sitting up thinking about me like i am about you. its that point in a relationship with an ex when you have such strong feelings for the other party and you feel sure that they must feel the same, but you have no way of knowing and could be completely wrong since you probably haven't seen them in a while . Do you take the plunge, swallow your pride, and go over to their house and say "we both know there is nobody else in the world"? I think this song is about him debating whether or not do to that and the pain associated being in that limbo. he can sit in the echo filled bar and continue wishing that there was someone (a “doctor”), who could tell him that he's right and relieve him of his pain associated with the inaction and uncertainty. But there’s no doctor in the house, nobody in reality who can really say “yeah, dude she totally still loves you” so he has to choose whether to act on his feelings and risk rejection or continue sitting in the bar, wishing.
in the end it seems like he decides to go over there, but its unclear to me whether or not he really takes the plunge. The song says "there WILL be a knock on your back door" — ie, in the future. I feel like, given the tone of the song, maybe he will stay in the bar and continue dreaming about going over to her house and thinking about how it would feel. Maybe its something he’s promising himself he will do so he doesn’t feel miserable about not knowing.
And that’s my 2 cents! Whatever the intent behind it is, I love this song and think its absolutely beautiful.

Broken Social Scene – Lover's Spit Lyrics 15 years ago
most songs are about straight relationships, and (if these interpretations are right) its awesome that this one is representing a gay relationship. and its a kickass song. remember that as a straight person you are very well represented in art, music, etc and don't have to worry about being underrepresented like the gay community tends to be, so its sort of silly for you to whine about it.

The Jesus and Mary Chain – Head On Lyrics 17 years ago
Damn... I hadnt thought about this song being about drugs or head, ever. These interpretations make sense, but i still have my own. This song to me makes me feel crazy about being alive. It feels like he is really energetic/excited, ready for something totally different and new. I feel like this on my better days when life is just rocking. But then again, i can totally see how it could be about drugs/sex as well.

Okkervil River – Get Big Lyrics 17 years ago
i think this one is about his woman, probably younger and less experienced, needing to go out and do stupid stuff, like get her kicks in LA (sunset strip), go get wasted and party, etc. They were younger (the days you'd like to outstrip) when they got together, maybe, and he had seen some stuff and she had not, and now the glitz of the rock n roll world is calling to her and she has to go find out for herself what that is all about.... even though its not really all its cracked up to be. The singer knows that, he's already had that experience, yet he gets that this is what she needs to do to grow up and there is nothing he can do about it. i can see how her cheating on him would totally fit into that scenario as well. just my interpretation. :)

Okkervil River – A Stone Lyrics 17 years ago
I agree with a lot of what has been said here…. I want to add that I don’t think that the girl is intentionally rough… I think she is truly unable to love and is un open to herself and probably doesn’t know it. In the first stanza, when he is talking about hot breath and warm skin…. ‘you like all these things’. The woman he is referencing, in my opinion, probably desires these things, but in love she goes for pretty much the opposite (and maybe she doesn’t even realize it.) I like what everyone is saying about the theme of death, although I think it could be metaphorical. (could be wrong, of course) It feels like the woman just goes for the stone, or basically lack of love/death, because she does not know how to go for life in respect to love. That implies vulnerability and being open – maybe something that the woman isn’t capable of for whatever reason, and …. Something she won’t get from someone who has a polished (ie, cool) and un-impenetrable exterior…. She gravitates not only to the coolness of the knave but also to the death/lifelessness of that person and their inability to show affection. The narrator is saying that he’s “too fond of flames….” Calling his friends, freaking out over it all basically, like losing his shit, having a real-life reaction, while she is oblivious. Maybe she is even in a dream – the dream that this other dude loves her. I also think that in this stanza, when he talks about her picking pebbles out of a drain, that the pebbles are referring to the crumbs of affection (the one red rose) that she is getting from the stone. And the other man, the stone, doesn’t give these affections to her directly even, she has to go pick them out of the drain. I also want to say….that I don’t think that this woman is a bitch, and I don’t think the singer thinks that. I think he sort of has pity on her, and that he doesn’t understand why she can’t love – he just sees that this is the case and it sucks for both of them.
