I think we can safely presume that bud was laughing at the irony of singing that they "became a joke line" in light of what then followed because for a band who are already a joke to say that they are isn't actually funny anyway, not all of this song was written about their pre-success days - the final verse makes reference to an alleged incident when a drug-addled Izzy was complaining that he was broke and then found a $900,000 Appetite royalty cheque that he'd forgotten to cash in his pocket also - its fairly obvious that only the first verse and chorus are about the girl - most people's comments seem to ignore half of the lyrics |
