I think this is not especially about women, but people in general. Most of people we meet everyday are complete strangers to us. And still they are ones we must compare us to. We see them only for a glimpse, but from thät glimpse we make opinion about that person. And thats just wrong. Because we are more. Everyone has some hidden layer, good or bad. And beneath that layer is just another waiting to be found. oh, and treeknee: aye! |

I think that in part: "Things I have loved I'm allowed to keep I'll never know if I go to sleep" she is referencing to how short life is and how when we die we can only take with us "things that we have loved" which is memories. And all this books and papers thing is metaphor to how much we collect all things that are just useless and we still can't take that all with us when we die. |

I feel and think this is perfect description of how does it feel when on tour. Your loved ones are far away at home, you travel from hotel room to hotel room and they are all the same, only thing changing is name of the town they are playing. When not playing in gig there are just back-street dolls and side door johnnies but not one real person who you would like to know. And they are not helping your longing of family. Spanish scrawl thing is quite literal, hotel desk-clerk (?) has taken message from girlfriend but written it in such handwriting that you cannot comprehense it. |
