| David Bowie – I'm Afraid of Americans Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I think this song is giving a voice to the Americans that have woken up and notice the crap that makes up the average American. Yes, in the video Trent is Johny, and Johny is the average American. The line "God is an American" is saying that the God of America is different than the God of other countries, and that is because of the way the world (specifically religion) works. People have their image of God molded from the ground up before they can even mold their own. This song exploits the fact that religion simply doesn't work the way people think it does, and that the negative parts of America are overtaking the positives. P.S. Nobody here is wrong, but that's just what I get out of it. I also agree with many other posts here. |

well, PikachusNightmare, it's always nice to see someone else who really gets it...if you feel like it you can IM at laket06 (AIM)...for some reason everything on The Slip is sticking on the top of my mind. I was just thinking of how they can mold us to whatever they want if they ban certain things. It's just like parents molding their children into what they want them to be. The negative part of me says that people will just give up and accept it, and that they already have. I recently ratted out a kid for doing drugs in the middle of recess. Over 150 other kids knew about it, and I was the only person to do a damn thing about it. I can't really be proud of myself because I am disappointed by everyone else who didn't speak up because that wasn't the cool thing to do. If being your own person and standing up as an independent is only present in about 1/150 Americans, what kind of chance do we stand against a mind-controlling government? (btw, I am not against drugs in the right hands, but it wasn't doing that kid any good) |

Great song... but PikachusNightmare: we all make little choices along the way that decide just how much we give up, and listening to, and more importantly interpreting, this music is a great way to keep it fresh on the mind that we are being "forced" to be robotic americans, but we can rebel with our own forces to accomplish what we know must be done and avoid what we know we cannot endure. |
