Say Anything – The Church Channel (feat. Hayley Williams) Lyrics 17 years ago
i love this song because there are three different but amazing sections to it. i think by writing the song this way max is portraying his bipolar disability through the music. best off the album!

Cute Is What We Aim For – Sugar High (Coyote Shivers cover) Lyrics 17 years ago
this song is hilarious, but it's not a good sign with a cover of a song i already knew is the best that i've heard from a band releasing a new album...

Say Anything – The Church Channel (feat. Hayley Williams) Lyrics 17 years ago
along with the bipolar theme, the huge shift in the song with the instrumental break after "and when i shower" to "they let us play with markers" as well as the shift to the "lay your head on me" at the end really covers the variety of emotions and moods that max feels as a person and a songwriter. excellent song.

Say Anything – Shiksa (Girlfriend) (feat. Caithlin De Marrais) Lyrics 17 years ago
depending on how traditional you are as jew, dating a "shiksa" can basically mean world war three to your parents (and your grandparents will die when they hear). the lines "like the yin and the yang of the afikomen
you’re the omen that all has changed that was deranged" really makes no sense because an afikomen is a special piece of matzah on the jewish holiday of passover, but it is a reference to judiasm so it has significance to bemis. many of bemis's songs contain jewish themes so it not surprising that he devoted one to the whole concept of rebelling against your parents by dating outside the faith

Bright Eyes – Take It Easy (Love Nothing) Lyrics 17 years ago
this song relates to a variety of relationships, regardless of gender. personally, i have been in situations where "i was a fool, you were my friend" or where "just once something dies, you can't make it live." my favorite part of the song is the last stanza, where conor describes trapping a person inside a song. that is completely true, before i even really thought about the lyrics of this song i have related particular songs to describe my relationship with somebody and to remind me of them (this song and the shin's "caring is creepy" for example). this is a beautiful song with an incredibly deep meaning about love and loss
