Bruce Springsteen – The River Lyrics 14 years ago
I've heard this song a million times and I've only just realized that The River is a metaphor for a vagina!

same again with the reservoir in the "her body tan and wet down at the reservoir" line.

also of interest is that in the end he goes down to the river, even though he knows the river is dry. to me this obviously confirms my theory. after all the guy and Mary would hardly go to the river to go fishing now would they!

I think you'll find the line is: is a dream a lie if it don't come true or is it something worse that sends me down to the river....

because, i think, the way you wrote it, it wouldn't have much sense.
it would make sense if it was "is a dream a lie if it DOES come true, or is it something worse?"

Bruce Springsteen – Leah Lyrics 14 years ago
on the D&D tour, before playing this song Bruce said "we all we carry with us the seeds of our destruction, a great joke played on us by God, it comes along with free will, or semi free will, we also carry with us the seeds to bring good things into it all, so this is a song about a man who finally figuers out how to come down on just the right side of that equation".

of intrest is that when introducing The Hitter, he said that that's about the other side of that equation, our seeds of our destruction.

Bruce Springsteen – Walk Like A Man Lyrics 14 years ago
true!
such an obvious song, yet i'd never understood it untill now! i'd always thought he was tracing his wifes footsteps in the sand, even if it didn't make any sense like that.
now i really see what this song is about :)

can anybody else hear the similarities between this song and kylie minogue's "can't get you out of my head" song. sounds pretty damn similar to me.

i'm amazed nobody else has commented on this, which is quite possibly the lords most famous song!

anyway, i see what you mean about movies. i heard somewhere that this song was inspired by the movie Appocalypse Now.
i've never seen the Deer Hunter but i've just read a review of it, so i see the connection.

i'd always thought the chourus was making a refrence to drugs: cocaine, LSD maybe ("i feel up/groovy")

Nuremberg stepper blowing wets away - i spent hours goolgling that once. lol.

who's Miss La Ray??

great song anyway. and that na na na na na na naa naaa riff is unforgettable.

Bruce Springsteen – Darkness on the Edge of Town Lyrics 15 years ago
first of all the song's actually called darkness ON the edge of town - no wonder it didn't come up when i searched for it.

i suppose this song could be a continuation of the thunder road/racing in the street saga.

but from how i see it our hero had a gambling problem (cut it loose or let it drag em down - if you don't cut your gambling looses you'll continue playing and end up with nothing. so as a result he can easily be found drinking/drugging (he can't stop) on skid row (where noone asks many questions or looks too long in your face, the darkness on the egde of town)

i'm surprised nobody else has had the same interpretation as me.

Bruce Springsteen – For You Lyrics 15 years ago
i'd never really listened properly to this song, untill now.
i'd always thought it was a romantic love song. i'd thought that the girl was so important to the guy that her went back for her.
but really it's a very sad song about death/suicide, as has been said above.

Bruce Springsteen – 4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy) Lyrics 16 years ago
this isn't a direct love song. the dude's seeing the waitress but maybe he desires Sandy, who must be the dudes (best?) friend.

i agree with bearfan. i too would love to her sandy; jungleland; and backstreets live
