The Cramps – Green Door Lyrics 17 years ago
I always imagined that green door hid an exclusive club for monsters and the like. Clearly the guy trying to get in has no business being there, and everybody inside knows this.

One of my favorites from a band that has permanently affected my tastes and tendencies in music listening.

RIP Lux

and thank you for everything.

The Adverts – Safety in Numbers Lyrics 17 years ago
I'm not so sure that this means that new wave accomplishes nothing. TV Smith, in his solo career, did have a tendency to veer more towards the new wave genre. In my opinion all punk (before '79) is new wave, BUT not all new wave is punk.

I think this song deals more with hipsters, and following trends for fear of being an individual. New wave maybe refers to the music, but maybe, it just refers to the new wave of trends, ideals .. the latest thing.
If "new wave" is referencing the music genre, it may be important to reference the first song on CTRS, "One Chord Wonders" where TV Smith jokes ""We must be new wave, they'll like us next year" - suggesting that The Adverts are just gonna have to wait 'til these hipsters find 'em and flock.
