Sara often seems to write sexually suggestive material. Maybe it's just how we absorb it, as I've also eventually read that the song was about something entirely different. Ex. Come On, Relief Next To Me, Red Belt.. Perhaps it's what she intends, but overall Sara's writing has become more vague over the years and can be interpreted many ways, I think. I find it quite funny if this is actually for Tegan, but I'd believe it. :P but seriously, if I had to describe myself sexually.. this song kind of nails it. "I get shy in these lights I feel your body doing overtime" Ahhh. |

Well, for a first glance. Without getting so technical.. I think it's about a relationship in which the girl is insecure, confused about she wants, and this frustrates Adam. As for the verse.. "It's a long way back south (and to where I belong) Well yeah you've been there once or twice (and you still dont like it) I say you just never gave it a chance (well give me a chance, give me a chance)" I think this should just be taken literally, not sexually.. Adam's from the South, born in Sheffield, Alabama.. and he's saying; "Well, you've been there once or twice and you still don't like it." So, he's saying 'give it a chance, give me a chance'.. perhaps to be more than what they currently are, which seems to be a rather unstable relationship, living the "high life".. hence, "like thieves". Then, he's saying that they can't live like that forever, like living.. but living miserably. So he's questioning what she really wants for herself, and for their relationship.. yeah. but yeah, just my opinion. |
