i'm surprised there aren't more comments on this song. it's so goddamn good. not just the lyrics but the instrumentals and the transitions between them i think this is the song that gives more than cursive a pass for mama i'm swollen just because they're cursive. this makes the album so good |

| after like 2 years of going through phases of playing this song on repeat for days on end i still love it so much. this is one of the best songs i've ever heard purely because of the fact that it makes me so happy as soon as it starts | |

i think this might be a reference to a dream or sleeping the parts about the toenails and the hydrant seem like they don't make enough sense to be a metaphor, like how we often dream about things that are nonsensical or don't/can't exist in the real world however, "i know that you cannot be here; i know that you are not mine now" "if you often smile but often don't smile, which do you do more often, smile, or not" seem like random thoughts at the end of the day, probably pertaining to a previous relationship at least thats how i see it :) |

| well i'm not saying far is bad by any means, i just love her old albums so much more than what i'm hearing off of her new one. it's much more poppy and less regina-y in my opinion | |

i don't like most of the songs i'm hearing off of "far" so far, but i loved dance anthem once it was redone and this is so beautiful. the video is phenomenal, i think it's the most beautiful regina has ever been... http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=58118408 me and a friend were talking about far and although it's not regina with her drumstick hitting a chair, her lyrics are still written so well but overall this song is great |

i think "peacebone" is saying to somebody to stop trying to impress someone and to move on dead fly = something bad/ominous that has ended? "adjust your inside, you're just an inside" |

| Regina Spektor – December Lyrics | 17 years ago |

i think this has to do with love...possibly a divorce or a breakup, or it could be the aftermath of one of the two, or just the whole process of breaking apart and then rebuilding emotions "rumors have started that you are in love again" "we don't believe in you and your wrecking crew" (saying that one lover doesn't believe the other?), etc. and i'm positive that regina was raised jewish, and i'm not sure what her religious views are now but the symbolism in this song seems pretty far fetched from relating to god/atheism. but it might be, who knows none the less she's still amazing |

by the way salad days are the days of his youth, this whole album seems to relate to flaws to religion or just religion in general...and kasher went to a catholic high school connection possibly? |

by the way, this is how i broke up the song if that comment is confusing to read haha Verse 1 Lately I've been wishing I had one desire Something that would make me never want another Something that would make it so that nothing mattered All would be clear then But I guess I'll have to settle for a few brief moments And watch it all dissolve into a single second And try to write it down into a perfect sonnet or one foolish line 'Cause that's all that you'll get so you'll have to accept You are here then you're gone Chorus 1 But I believe that lovers should be tied together and Thrown into the ocean in the worst of weather and left there to drown Left there to drown in their innocence But as for me I'm coming to the final chapter I read all of the pages and there is still no answer Only all that was before I know must soon come after That is the only way it can be So I stand in the sun And I breathe with my lungs Trying to spare me the weight of the truth Verse 2 Saying everything you've ever seen was just a mirror And you've spent your whole life sweating in an endless fever And now you are laying in a bathtub full of freezing water Wishing you were a ghost But once you knew a girl and you named her Lover And danced with her in kitchens through the greenest summer But autumn came, She disappeared You can't remember where she said she was going to But you know that she's gone 'cause she left you a song That you don't want to sing Chorus 2 We're singing I believe that lovers should be chained together And thrown into a fire with their songs and letters And left there to burn Left there to burn in their arrogance But as for me I'm coming to my final failure I've killed myself with changes trying to make things better But I ended up becoming something other than what I had planned to be Chorus 3 Now I believe that lovers should be draped in flowers And layed entwined together on a bed of clover And left there to sleep Left there to dream of their happiness |

i picked this song for a romeo and juliet "theme song" project and i actually found out a lot more connections than i intentionally thought there would be... “A Perfect Sonnet” connects to a particular scene in Romeo and Juliet when Romeo is outside of Juliet's window and they are promising their love to each other. Romeo begins to promise Juliet that his love for her represents different great, huge, powerful things in nature (I.e., the moon), but Juliet tells him not to swear by anything, and just to promise her simply that he loves her. Conor expresses his ideas of love particularly in the various choruses. In the first chorus he expresses his slightly morbid belief that lovers should tied together and thrown into an ocean to drown innocently. In the second chorus, it gets to a higher level of morbidity, saying that he believes lovers should be chained together and thrown into a fire to burn. He's expressing his belief of the sacrifice that lovers should promise each other, like Romeo is to Juliet underneath the balcony. The third chorus contrasts from the first two greatly. Conor says that he finally believes that lovers should be “draped in flowers, and layed entwined together on a bed of clover, and left there to sleep, left there to dream of their happiness”. He's saying that after all of these sacrifices he has made (refer to verses), he doesn't believe they're necessary, and that lovers should just embrace the fact that they're in love and do nothing more. This relates to when Juliet tells Romeo to say that he loves her, with no promise or sacrifice involved whatsoever, because then she knows he is telling the truth. “A Perfect Sonnet” also relates to the overall plot of the book, particularly in the place of Romeo. The song starts out with Conor's wish of having a lover who loves him back because it would make everything in life meaningful, much like Romeo wants Rosaline to love him back in the beginning of the story. In the 2nd and 3rd part of verse 1, Conor is talking about his acceptance of the fact that you have to obtain patience and understanding for love if you want a new lover or if you experience something such as heartbreak. Romeo doesn't feel the same way; he actually almost completely contrasts from how Conor views love. Romeo won't accept the fact that Rosaline has left him, and after he meets and falls in love with Juliet, he won't wait for marriage even though he has just met her. In the 3rd part of the first chorus, it expresses denial of something that's associated with love, which relates to Romeo's denial of Juliet being a Capulet. This gateways into verse 2, which is all about denial, wishing he was with his lover, sacrificing everything for his lover, etc. The 2nd chorus (if you listen to the song) is almost like a climax in the way it's performed and what it's lyrics are, and it also relates to the climax of the book. Romeo and Juliet are going through everything possible just to see each other. Finally, in the 3rd chorus, Conor just wants to indulge in and enjoy his love life, and like the ending of the book, Romeo and Juliet have died for each other after going through so many sacrifices, and they're finally at peace. |

kasher is a genius, i don't think i've heard a more creative album than this. (although many albums are in close proximity to how creative this is) basically (how i see it), this song sums up happy hollow and the several messages tim was trying to get across (how i see it, once again) all seem to revolve around the flaws of church and religion in someway...this is extremely relevant when he states the 14 hymnals... anyways, yeah, tim is a prodigy |
