This one is definitely a reference to war profiteering from big companies, Gangs of Thieves, such as Lockheed Martin and Haliburton |

I don't think it's that simple... there are alot of references to Dicken's A Tale of Two Cities though... "far far better thing than I have ever done, a far far better rest I go to now than I have ever known" and the drinking also fits for Sidney Carton's character. Not sure who Margaret Brown is though... |

It is definitely in the style of a Great Gatsby party, but it is not retelling the Great Gatsby. It's commenting in the arrogance of the United States Government as they ignore the destruction of their own empire. Chad confirms all this in the Cologne interviews, and also adds that Sally is a combination of Sally Fields (a female astronaut) and someone (I can't recall the name) who was rumored to have run an escort service in the white house. In addition I expect that this may have been a reaction to the obscene amounts of cash spent on the republican national convention--- a huge multi-million dollar party that's essentially useless in that nothing new is announced. |

I think the rise and fall is her crying... the bad news is irrelevant other than that it finally motivates her to rise above the bullshit of a middle-class job. She finally snaps and robs the place. When the manager challenges her, she fires back "you will never get away with this" referring to the mistreatment of his employies.
all and all the song is about hardship in the middleclass as evidenced by the blurbs on state radio's myspace and facebook. |

Klal531 was close on the speech in the background... it is indeed a Kennedy, but it's Bobby not John. It was after Martin Luther King's death though |

It is about the archdiocese and corruption in the Catholic Church in Massachusetts. Chad confirms this in a couple of interviews done in Cologne. In addition, his frustration with the Catholic Church is why there is an anarchy symbol on the cover of Year of the Crow. The picture is from a cool box his parents or grandparents had. It's a bird wedding, so the book in the picture should be a bible, but in light of recent corruption, he found the anarchy symbol less offensive. |
