"If the doors of perception were cleansed everything would appear to man as it is, infinite."
- William Blake.
The Doors of Perception by Aldous Huxley and the band The Door's appropriated this phrase. So did MOLG. |

Santa is the father of his child.
For realers yo. That's why he don't pay child support. He actually won the court battle by only singing this song as his dead beat dad defense. |

I let both members, and their minidisc player, fuck my girlfriend. They wrote this song about her, before they left. But not before infecting her with funk.
By funk, I mean Lobsters. Because these guys are so fine, they are too good for crabs. They got lobsters. Bitch. |

Being more informed than the general public is annoying. Especially if you understand how they are controlling and weakening the populace. |

Americus is the name of the child in the Oprah Book of the Month Club novel, Where The Heart Is. Her mother is pregnant, and homeless inside a Wal-Mart. And, well, that's a perfect example of the far right wing. |

I don't feel like a representation of modern culture, as I reject everything, so why are you staring at me on a stage? I have nothing I want to give. Blah blah blah. Punk rock. |

| Brainiac – Fucking with the Altimeter Lyrics
| 15 years ago
|
Altimer is a slang term for an old timer, or an Alzheimer patient. So, with the Altimeter spelling, try to make sense of the song.
What's weird is, you can. Certain aspects of the song are about taunting an Alzheimer patient that wronged you earlier in life, the other half of the song is clearly about a plane crash.
Put them together, and you have a novel. Or in this case, song 3 on Bonsai Superstar. |

| Machines of Loving Grace – Solar Temple Lyrics

"Always a friend of the victim at the slaughter of the innocents"
Gilt is an exploded narrative. One of the characters is a jaded drug dealer who commits suicide, I believe one is an informant of some kind. This is my interpretation, but good luck finding out from the writer, unless you're talking about playing classical music from up-side down pop songs, or some other pretentious bullshit. |

| Machines of Loving Grace – Butterfly Wings Lyrics

|
A theme-song for cynics and skeptics. An ode to trusting no one. The previous mentioning of the Butterfly wings chaos theory and the biblical references to false prophets are dead on.
"tonight I chase the dragon, by your fruits you shall know them." is apparently also a Steely Dan reference. |

| Machines of Loving Grace – Burn Like Brilliant Trash (at Jackie's Funeral) Lyrics

There was probably a JFK book passed around Scott Benzel's friends, namely the filmmaker Richard Linklater. The book was probably about the conspiracy theory that JFK and Jackie were amphetamine addicts. According to his film Slacker they had a doctor named "Dr. Feelgood," who would supply them with whatever they needed for "exhaustion." |

| Machines of Loving Grace – Content? Lyrics
| 15 years ago
|
The title is self explanatory, the man is not content.
I always thought the lyric was "There's something about the here and now." I always thought it was about having two sexual/romantic options and choosing the most appealing at the moment, instant gratification over building a future.
That said, "get off the cross dear, we need the wood." is my favorite, of many great MOLG lyrics. |

He likes drugs more than a girl, who left him due to addiction.
It could not be drugs, his limiter could be an abstract concept he has obsessed himself with, but well, it's probably drugs. |

| Brainiac – Fucking with the Altimeter Lyrics

I dunno. It seems like a cut up and like word play. 2 separate scenes displayed in one song counterpointing each other in a very cryptic way. A crashing pilot. A paralyzed man being taunted by a family member he betrayed.
Could be connected or it could just be all gibberish. |

This song is a message to the punk rock movement, the words Ian directly addressing people in his audience, and his distaste with the guys in spiked leather who would spit on him from the crowd. |

It always reminded me of being obsessed with a girl, and then watching her get raped...
Or being in love with someone, and then leading them to a very sinister sort of party.
It's a perverse song... About a bukkake party, filled to the brim with horny japanese businessmen, and your girlfriend in the middle of it, get used to it. |

But no, this song is about growing up. Childhood is a time of incessant misery, sadism and confusion.
Anyone who will tell you differently is lying, and they hate being and adult, because they are imbeciles incapable of adapting to adulthood. |

In the realms of Nazism, the line "Withdrawl pain is hard, it can do you right in." Could be in reference to German soldiers being given meth, which Hitler injected daily, and Germany routinely gave meth to it's soldiers who having trouble on the battlefield.
With a name like "Joy Division" you can't hide the Nazi fascination. It's like if I had a band called "Horizontal Collaborators."
hrrrm... Maybe I should. |

There is a distinct narrative to the album Gilt. There are two interlocking stories. One is of a friendship based in drug abuse and dealing, that ends in suicide. The other is the story of a crumbling romantic relationship. There is a doublecross by a woman on the album, that relates to and connects both arcs. This is that song. |

| Machines of Loving Grace – Golgotha Tenement Blues Lyrics

|
MOLG went on record saying they wrote the song specifically for the movie. So it's their interpretation of a 'theme to the Crow.' Golgotha was the place where Jesus was crucified. The song itself is about a second coming, coming from the ghetto's. |
