well heres my view on the whispering part. i go to church every sunday and wednesday and i am always told Jesus is white. Well maybe trent is basicly saying here that we were all wrong and the "Color of you skin" is refering to White ppl. I am white, for any of yall asking. I mean through out history its always been White men and this and that. Maybe Trent could also be saying that we have basicly created this image, based on color, that is completly wrong, and once you die you will be punished for that. |

sry if i repeat someone else but i didn't feel like reading everything lol. ok so i think this song is about his son. I just turned 17 today and i can't say i know exactly wut it is like to have a kid but i will try. i know that most people, when they have a kid, try to straiten up there act for there kid. Basicly setting a good example for them.

i don't konw how close Maynard is with his son, "Slip away..."
Another view that can be put on it would be that Maynard is afriad his son will do the same mistake he did in his life which is why he says "considerately killing me"

ok my thought here could be wrong but its just an idea. Well if Trent has decided to link albums together then this is where my idea comes from. If you listen to Year Zero then the Slip and then TDS, well there stories all seem to go together. Like in Year Zero the world is ending and everything is wrong and in The Slip, the main charecter starts TDS, and then we all know what TDS is about. But like jsut the album names go together also. Its just an idea, but i could be on the right track. |

best song on The Slip. Trent has so much emotion in this song; as for the meaning, don't really know. i think its just up to everyone. i don't think Trent wrote this telling something, but instead to let us just come up with the story/picture |

well im 16 and i love music with a passion and NIN is by far my favorite. i understand almost every song on TDS but Hurt always tricked my mind, and no ppl its not about drugs (TDS doesn't talk about drugs, it talks about losing everything you have in life). I listened to the song TDS and then followed it by Hurt and then pow it hit me. this is the suicide note. i was always confused bc i was like the story is over and now Hurt comes on after 10/15 seconds of silencle. it blaffaled me. but if you read the lyrics to every song on TDS and write like a summary of that song and then b4 you read Hurt's lyrics read all your notes. you will clearly see it is the suicide note. also, which i know not many ppl will agree with this one, but the whole album is actually a positive message, bc the last lines of the album are "I would keep myself I would find a way". also if you try to tune out Trents voice and just listen to the music you will realize that just the music alone symbolizes every song on the album. the loud riff/bang at the end of the song symbolizes the main charcter dieing. so yes everybody if a 16 year old kid can figure it so can everybody else |

if anybody didn't know this already but this song was released on EARTH DAY. and we all know Trent write/plays/and everything else he does for a reason. he didn't just say i feel like producing a song in 24hrs and just released it. it released it on earth day bc its most likly about the earth and how we need some Discipline, to save the world we live in |
