He first starts off with the idea that maybe he should give up and that the girl he loves is right and he's "wrong"...that there is no chance. Then in the second verse, he starts to think more deeply into it. He's "starting to believe" that things don't have to end just because she wants it to and wonders "what if i could be (right)?". At this point, he wants everybody to hold on and take a step back before making any drastic decisions ("Somebody wait, somebody stay...somebody wait, give me a chance"). "Don't give up" is in reference for his girl, himself, and anybody else (friends?) that are involved. Then he tries to "see the world through her eyes" to gauge an understanding of how she feels: "I wonder would it end this time; You're never really sure; We've fallen down before." She's afraid of it ending badly this time because, apparently, they have a history. In the next verse, he realizes he might not have much time anymore but also realizes her fears and is scared of the same thing, but he knows that if she trusts him and that he'll "never let go of her hand", that they'll be okay. That no matter what, he'll be by her side and make it work this time. He keeps reminding himself (and her) to not give up...don't give up...don't give up on something that you believe in so strongly. No amount of time can take away what they have and she's so special and that she's worth it. |
