I've always seen this as a song about a guy so in love with a girl that he can't have that he kills himself. The sacrifice would fit in nicely with this theory. A few of the lines could be seen as describing suicide: drew a line=cut his wrist, he says what a thing to've done, bleed himself dry, etc. |

hmmm..... it seems that all they males who have commented are bashing on it, and all the females are saying it rocks. Well, i'm male. and I love it. I love all songs like this, that follow the idea of i'm happy right now because I'm with you, so let's make right now last even just a little longer. It's a really common theme in many songs, but still a good one that makes me smile. And no, i'm not gay. :) |

Um. I'd just like to say this. Because from the 5 pages of comments I read, no one said it yet. Its about suicide. Read the lyrics, and think of it as someone about to kill himself (just killed a man refers to himself) and it makes sense. Nothing matters anymore, he doesn't care anymore, life doesn't seem like the "real life" or a "fantasy", he only knows one escape from reality. it's too late, his time has come, he didn't mean to hurt his mom and make her cry, he's gone and thrown his life all away, it pretty much all fits. Maybe not the middle part, but I think that is the rest of the world so confusing and messed up around him, and he wants it to just let him go. |

I agree with everybody who has said in some way or another that this song protests the way in which the media is shaping our society into a sexual, violent, angry system in which some people don't think twice about killing someone, an artist can show her nipple at the superbowl and still have top selling albums, and a politician can sleep with a prostitute without too many major repercussions (and no, I am not refering to Clinton). I think that it is against TV using its power to make people more lazy and less in tune with things that actually are part of life and worth living for. My only real original comment is that I think it is odd for a metal band like SOAD to perform a song like this. |
