Recently triple J played a live recording of Paul Dempsey from a show for triple j listeners, and before he played this song, he said that this song was about pain, suffering, heartache etc "all that shit that people think my songs are all about" That's not an exact quote, I can't remember his exact words, but that's almost exactly what he said. Personally, I see the song that way too. |

i'm not sure i agree with most of the interpretations i've read on this one...although Awesomality seems to be on the right track to me, this song seems to be speaking of how it is human nature to believe that there was once a time when the world was perfect, and that in time, the world may return to this perfect state. the song then goes on to warn how this complacent frame of mind may eventually lead to mankind's downfall, as "if we don't turn around" "we'll soon be swallowed by the sea" so to speak. but hey, that's just how i see this song. songs always have a different meaning to everyone right? |
