You can't deny that this is a religious song, he makes clear reference, and at times, even directly quotes scripture. His exact angle on it is up for interpretation, but mine is that it's a narrative from the perspective of Jesus Christ, basically saying that a lot of Christians are missing the point. |

Gorgeous song, the backing harmonies during the "Grow up now..." verse are just stunning. I enjoy the song's decent into a slower intrumental version of Nothin'severgonnastandinmyway, very clever. |

I read in a J Magazine interview that the idea for the song came from him wanting his loved ones to remeber him when he was gone. |

^^^ FishesWillLaugh: That's actually Jeff Tweedy playing that solo, their current lead guitarist (Nels Cline) joined after A Ghost Is Born was recorded. Tweedy's solos are like a blowtorch man, they're so harsh and jagged, but there's a true beauty to them as well. |

I dunno man, I think people tend to over-anylyze some of Tweedy's songs. To me, this song is someone re-assuring a loved one that he's there for them, even in the midst of their calamity. |

I read somewhere about the writing technique for one of the songs on Sky Blue Sky (I don't know which one, but I imagined it was this). I read that each line was written by a different band member, and they were only allowed to read the previous line to theirs. I would explain the almost stream-of-consiousness lyrical style. |
