State Radio – Good Graces Lyrics 15 years ago
This song is from the perspective of a man looking back on his childhood, realizing how ignorant he was to the fact that his mother was sleeping with the Church's "Father" to prevent him from molesting the children (including himself).

"Remember how we tried
Just to stay in your good graces
While you were washing all our faces
Whoa, remember how we lied
Just to stay in your good graces
While you were watching all your faces"

^ At first, it shows his ignorance just talking about his care-free childhood, subtly mentioning his Mom's suffering, but he didn't know what was going on--he was too young & childish

"Mama don't love her work
Oh but she do what the Parson say
Just dont tell her oh dont tell her that it is Sunday
And we dont go to bed at night, no
'Cause we don't like the way it feels
But we aint afraid of sunlight, no
Oh, just dont let it sink to low
...
Remember how we lived
Remember how we died
Remember how we hated watching Ma cry "

^ Clearly, Mama isn't happy. For her, Sunday is the day she has to submit to the Parson for the sake of her children. No wonder she doesn't like Sunday. And the children don't want to go to bed at night because they "don't like the way it feels." Chilling.

Then the meaning of the song is given absolutely:

"We were always upset at you for the childhood we missed
But you were sleeping with the father so that he wouldn't sleep with us kids

No, sorry did not know
The pain you was in
When you were raising us kids
No, sorry I did not know
The pain you was in
When you were raising us kids"

Chad is an amazing song writer. This song expresses so much emotion with such a few key lines. Can you imagine a childhood like that? Can you imagine your relationship with your mother once you found out? Can you imagine how sorry you'd be for never appreciating her for all the suffering she's done for your benefit?

Terrific rant (and it got you a negative rating :D)! But it could be improved if you yourself actually backed-up your argument of the meaning of this song.

Seriously, potheads wouldn't think this is about weed. They'd be the ones defending that ridiculous idea.

Personally, I'm not sure if it's about (a) him being a poor & humble traveler talking to a local woman about his happy, simple life or (b) him being a wealthy man traveling and talking to a local whore in the streets of a city.

Foo Fighters – All My Life Lyrics 15 years ago
I totally agree. I used to think this song was about going down on a girl, but I don't see that at all anymore. IMHO, it's about self-harm--or more specifically, cutting.

"All my life I've been searching for something
Something never comes, never leads to nothing"

He's feeling lost and empty. A common reason for inflicting harm upon yourself is to feel _something_ instead of emptiness.

"Nothing satisfies, but I'm getting close
Closer to the prize at the end of the rope"

He can't get satisfaction from anything. Even cutting is loosing its edge. He cuts deeper, longer--getting "closer to the prize at the end of the rope"

..then he talks a lot about his wrists and such.

"one by one hidden up my sleeve"

the scars literally hidden by his sleeves. This line is the big reason I can't imagine this song is about women; it doesn't make sense otherwise!

Tool – Schism Lyrics 17 years ago
I don't know where the hell everyone gets the god/christ interpretation from this. The only thing that can be skewed into being about religion is:
"watch the TEMPLE topple over"

IMHO, "temple" is a reference to their beautiful relationship; there is nothing else to suggest that it's about religion.

This song is about a failed relationship. The guy wants to get back together, but he's afraid that nothing will change unless they're able to strengthen their communication. The message is that the most important thing to a relationship is the lovers' ability to communicate.

Stone Temple Pilots – Plush Lyrics 17 years ago
This song is about primal instinct and the correlating sexual desire.

"And I feel and I feel when the dogs begin to smell her"

Haven't you ever lived in a setting with a dog and a woman on her period? The dog is constantly smelling the woman's crotch. Any woman with a dog knows that they have to put their bloody pads in a covered trash that can't be opened by the dog; if the dog can open it, it will smell it out and make a bloody mess.

Just like the dog's ability to smell blood (which it uses when finding its bitch), the man in this song is sexually aroused by the menstruation of his mate. He wants to have sex with her; she's bleeding, he knows it, and he's ready.
