I guess all songs are different to everyone... but to me, this song stands for something that never happened. A chance never taken. "With nothing said, then nothing gets done" ::sigh:: This song really does hit the spot. I'll be fine. I'll just stand here waiting. |

So if this was set in 1824, that is the year that Infanta Maria Luisa died. So maybe it is about her death?? I wonder if the song is over her lifetime? At first, she arrives to get married. The "luscious young girls" referring to her sisters (she had a lot!). The baronness possibly referring to her older sister (who was also getting married that day, was originally supposed to marry the guy Maria Luisa did, but got the short end of the bargain and married her MUCH older uncle) who could have felt "barren" for getting ripped of her future husband. Her sister also dies shortly after and never had any children. As for veiled young virgin? Maria Luisa was married at 13. She married her 1st cousin, who was a prince. As far as the last stanza, this one throws me off. Could it refer to Maria Luisa's late granddaughter? Or possibly her newly born grandson? Or is it herself, being laid on her death bed (fun fact: she died of cancer!)? If it is Maria Luisa as a baby, it doesnt really make sense. She was born of royalty, not adopted, and from what I've heard/read, not found in water. This is a stretch... but maybe it refers to an unborn child?? Shortly before she died she had a few flings in hopes of finding a new husband, and the slumber/water could refer to her womb? |
